Gluten Free Me

Marlena is not the only one in our Foodgasm crew who is making changes to her diet (see previous post).  I am as well.  And what I am avoiding is gluten. Or as I like to tell people, gluten and I are not friends. This was a hard one for me. I like bread. I love bread. Rolls. Muffins. Pasta. Etc. So it was a big deal when I decided to find out what life was like without gluten.Let me tell you, my intestinal tract…See More

He Slipped Away Without a Notice

It started yesterday when I was scrolling through Facebook updates.  I have too many “friends” and “like” too many pages to ever do a thorough reading.  But in my scrolling,  something popped out.  A person I didn’t know had posted photos of one of my FB friends.  And next to it the letters RIP.Let’s call him "Carl."  He’s one of my FB “friends” that come from my teenage era. I graduated from a small town high school the same year that Carl did. I didn’t really know Carl. Oh, everyone knew…See More

What's in the Box?

Back to school time brings up memories of school lunches from when I was young. A confession here. For me that was quite a long time ago—I entered school in the mid-1950s.I did have a lunch box when I was in primary school. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t brand new. Certainly my mother found one somewhere for me, cleaned out the inside and declared as good as new.  What was on that lunch box I do not remember. What I do remember was what was inside. For the first four grades of school I don’t know if…See More

HER HEAD IN A BOOK

“She’s off in a corner with her head in a book.” To this day, I can still hear my mother saying that to my 12-year-old self. And with this pronouncement, she wasn’t offering a compliment.I loved books. I loved reading. Yes, I loved summer because I could do even more reading. And it’s not that my mother disapproved of reading. She just thought I did entirely too much of it. Along with those remarks about my reading habit,…See More

When I Learned to Drive

Growing up in New York State, the first time you could legally slide into the driver’s side of a car and take off down the road was at age 16. But something my parents never found out was that I was driving a car when I was four years old! Well, perhaps driving isn’t totally accurate. But it sure felt like driving to me.The lady across the street from where my parents had moved when I was a baby became intrigued at what was in that baby carriage. And, my mother, with two older children to look…See More

Hello dear Etta. Nice to connect with too. May we remain 'children in blooming' and although I greatly enjoy the art of food, I must leave the indulging behind as my half nude body is now sighing 'enough honey'. Best wishes and love the movies as well (independant films) :-)
