Gabriel Scala is an American poet and essayist. Born on September 5, 1971, Scala grew up primarily in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; although, her family moved repeatedly both within and without the state until her high school years. This perpetual movement shows itself in Gabriel’s writing which often deals with themes of home, belonging, and change.
She holds degrees in creative writing and American literature from Bowling Green State University and the University of Mississippi, respectively and has taught creative writing and literature at the University of Memphis, Lebanon Valley College, and Delta State University. Gabriel has served as managing editor for Mid-American Review, assistant editor for The Yalobusha Review, and co-editor for Tapestry. She currently holds the position of poetry editor for Valley Humanities Review, an online journal in the humanities for undergraduate students that she founded in 2009 while an Assistant Professor of English at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania.
