The detail of your writing succeeds in painting a clear portrait of this American heroine as well as gently leaking in your own strong voice. When I eat dinner I think of Tamsen. When I take a hot bath and crawl under a puffy duvet I think of Tamsen and want to weep. I have been deeply touched by both her courage and your pursuit as a writer, wife and mother. As you so admire her, I admire you. Congratulations, Gabrielle.

I didn't get to attend the event because we are now in NM but it sounded wonderful.
I have not read your work yet but I can't wait. I haven't used this site much but a friend mentioned Impatient with Desire and I was intrigued and then remembered you were on this site.
He thought I could relate since I packed up my family (3 boys and husband) in 2008 and headed West. (We had traveled every year from FL to CA since 2005.) Then, when times were tough in the CA desert, we left after a year to live in Santa Fe, NM. That's where we live now.

I loved "Searching for Tamsen Donner" so much. Haunting, evocative and as a fellow writer struggling for audience, it was inspiring. I appreciated the spirit of adventure you and Mrs. Donner have in common. I loved the entwining of the two stories and the writing itself. I could feel the heat in the car as you traversed deserts and the cool when you found your way to greener pastures. Congratulations and I look forward to reading the novel.
