Profile Information

Who I am:: Gladys Swan is a writer and visual artist.
She has published two novels, Carnival for the
Gods in the Vintage Contemporaries Series,
and Ghost Dance: A Play of Voices, which LSU
Press nominated for the PEN/Faulkner and PEN/West Awards. She has also published
seven collections of short fiction, the most
recent being The Tiger's Eye: New & Selected
Stories from Serving House Books (see their Web Page) Her fiction has been published in
various literary magazines, including
Sewanee Review, Virginia Quarterly Review,
Kenyon Review, Chelsea, Shenandoah, Southwest
Review, and Prairie Schooner. She has
received a Lawrence Foundation Prize for
Fiction and a Tate Prize for Poetry. She
has held residencies at Yaddo, the Wurlitzer
Foundation, the Fundacion Valparaiso in
Spain, the Chateau de Lavigny in Switzerland
the Martha's Vineyard Residency, the Norton
Island Residency, and the Vermont Studio Center (in painting), where she has twice
been a Guest Writer.
