Hello--I'm new to the group and eager to follow more of your discussion threads, so I'll throw one out: What do you think of the use of Prologue to begin a memoir? Is it tiresome and old-fashioned,…Continue

Nov. 6, 2011, NYC Marathon Runner David Finland Had One Goal: To Finish Strong The way we see it, Sunday’s New York City Marathon couldn't have gone any better for runner #21871.                    As always with this young man, there were some surprises along the way. Early on, my 24-year old autistic son David suddenly threw it into high gear and "ditched" his Team Achilles guide at Mile 5, leaving behind his phone, ID, and Metro pass somewhere in Queens. Then family scouts spotted him…See More

MSTFNSH...Huh?

MSTFNSH.

At first it was a mystery to me, but that’s what the vanity license plate reads in the middle of the eight bumper stickers on the back of my autistic adult son’s little Toyota.  He’s 24 and he’s been driving himself to work for nearly two years now, pulling trash at county parks for minimum wage.  There’ve been two tickets for going ten miles over the speed limit, but other than a broken rearview mirror and the unexplained yellow paint on the side of his gray car, no…

Wrapping up an intense week here at the PG Writers Conference in Montpelier, Vermont , with writers and poets who've come together from all over the U.S. It's been a productive week spent "pressing down hard" on nonfiction with author Richard McCann (Mother of Sorrows, The Ghost Letters).

Hi there -- just wanted to drop by your page and invite you personally (or at least virtually) to our first-ever She Writes Washington D.C. meetup, celebrating our first-anniversary! We are so grateful to the event's organizer, Ananda Leeke, for taking a risk and stepping up to host. I hope you will support her and bring yourself and other women who write (no need for them to be members) to the Washington D.C. gathering. At the meetup writers will take part in the She Writes "Book Communion," where attendees arrive with one book, their own or another She Writers', new or gently used, and leave with another book as a meaningfully way to support one another's work. We will also be blowing out a candle and making a wish for our upcoming writing year -- along with She Writers gathering in 16 cities around the country. I hope you will be part of this historic (well, at least kind of cool) occasion, and RSVP now to Ananda here.

Hi Glen! Glad to see that you've already joined a group and are attending the SheWrites first anniversary party in DC. I checked out your website-- very nice. Given the topic of your forthcoming book, I thought you might want to join the group Mother Writer! There's also a DC group and one for writers with similar pub dates. She Writes is all about fostering relationships between writers and sharing information-- you might get some good ideas from other women who are pubbing around the same time. I met Amy Einhorn, your publisher, five or six years ago and she is a lovely person. Sounds like your book has a good home. If you want to do some extra marketing and PR efforts on the book's behalf, you might want to take a look at She Writes webinar offerings or at She Writes Services (of which I am the manager) and consider working with one of our lovely freelancers to expand your platform andget the word out about your book. Whatever you decide to do on this website, I hope you find it to be a wonderful second home.
