THE FIRST AMENDMENT PROJECT AUCTION- Name a Character in a Published Book and More

The First Amendment Project is an organization that, among other things, provides funds for the legal representation for individuals litigating over First Amendment issues, people such as reporters. As writers, the First Amendment should be important to all of us, because it prevents censorship, keeps books from being pulled out of public libraries and public schools, and keeps the media on its toes to report the truth without fear of being sued or incarcerated. As part of a fundraising effort,…See More

I have a few variations of the above- my cat won't let me work because he keeps jumping on the keyboard and playing with the words on the screen as I type (this is true, but usually I throw him out of the room.) And while housework has NEVER…

Getting What You Want

I am a firm believer that if you are a positive person and avoid sending negative energy into the universe, you'll be repaid in kind. I'm not some spiritual guru type, just someone who feels karma has a way of biting everyone in the behind if they're not careful, and if you really want something and focus all of your positive energy on it, you usually get it. Of course, this is not voodoo, or in the other extreme, science. Some things are impossible. I can wish to be a six foot supermodel all I…See More

Can Anyone Tell Me Some Pitfalls of Self-Publishing

My daughters' elementary school offers what they call "enrichment clusters," which are basically elective courses. They run the gamut from scrapbooking, to putting on a show, to art, to cooking with books, to writing the school newsletter. These courses meet twice a week and are usually switched up each quarter. The school is a magnet, but is a public school, and the administration is always looking for people with special skills that can be incorporated into an enrichment cluster to teach an…See More

He is from a shelter in Ireland. We don't know why his prevous owners put him there, but he has been nothing but amazing in the 6 years since we got him. He only gets a little bad-mannered (barking) when he is bored. Typical bordercollie, I'd say. :)
Going on to read your posts ... What made you write "5 Things I Accomplished this Year that will make me a better writer"? I like the idea of that sort of "reckoning" to grow as a writer!

Anyplace you would recommend we not miss. I get the beignets (SP?) at the airport and continue eating them until they send me back home, so besides them what should we not miss? Working on a mystery series with fits and starts but I think I am finally on the road. Hope to one day be a published author like many of my friends here.
