Announcing The Shame Prom

Get out the champagne- this is a LAUNCH!I am so thrilled to be stepping into this new journey of my life, launching The Shame Prom, which is not only an anthology (Seal Press, 2012) but is sure to be a movement. Amy Ferris and I have helped each other to write honestly, we've joined hands exposing our secrets and fears to the world. We found that it's much easier to do when someone is holding your hand.  The world has since rewarded us in more ways than we ever could have imagined. Now we are…See More

How I Turned my Dirt Yard into A Tropical Paradise for $250.

I couldn't afford to hire a landscaper, I had no gardening skills whatsoever, but after looking at my bleak disaster of a yard, and my two little ones inside with nowhere to play, determination won out. My husband and I drew up a plan, grabbed our shovels and got to work. It took a few weeks of HARD SWEATY WORK, but it was totally worth it.We went from this:…See More

This is beautiful.  Forgiveness is an important value for me and one I struggle with daily.  I think striving to forgive is important for interpersonal growth.  I also think it requires tremendous honesty.  Honesty with…

How I Got Published (in a Totally Random Way)

When I got the phone call that Seal Press had bought our anthology The Shame Prom, I was cautiously optimistic. When I got the email, I smiled…a little. When my agent sent the contract for review, I carefully read it over and asked the pertinent questions. And when my writing partner Amy Ferris called and said, in so many words, WHY AREN’T YOU OVER THE MOON? THIS IS GREAT NEWS! I, the girl who’s always waiting for the other shoe to drop said, “I’ll believe it when I have the signed contract in…See More

Michelle Obama's Arms

I had an UNBELIEVABLE EXPERIENCE on Monday. I was Monica Holloway’s guest (thank you Areva Martin, CEO of Special Needs Network) at a fundraising luncheon for Obama 2012, featuring keynote speaker: Michelle Obama! Yes, folks. On Monday I was just ten feet away from greatness, and GREAT ARMS. Holy moly, those arms… I am not…See More

Farewell Oprah - It's Been A Great Ride...

The first thing that flashed in my mind this morning as my son poked me awake at 6:30 am was “Oh my God…this is it. The last Oprah show is today…”Next thought: How will I deal with it? I thought about flying to Chicago, throwing myself to the floor and clinging to her legs, begging Don’t leave me! But that would be undignified. And creepy. I imagined myself screaming as the cops dragged me away…But you guys don’t understand! Oprah is my best friend!Oprah truly does feel like a friend to me, and…See More

Ryder Islington commented on the blog post 'The Crucifixion of James Frey'
I agree Hollye. And I was really pleased that Oprah apoligized for her lack of compassion. She owned up to the fact that her ego got in her way. She was upset and angry because she felt dupped. I can understand that feeling and agree with you that…
