Who am I
I've been studying the influence of advertising on the culture for over 40 years. I've written and made films and created lectures about the image of women in advertising, alcohol and tobacco advertising, eating disorders and more.
Books I've written, anthologies I've contributed to and any scripts or plays I've authored
I'm best known for my films, especially "Killing Us Softly: Advertising's Image of Women," which I first made in 1979 and have updated three times since (most recently in 2010). My other films include "Slim Hopes: Advertising & the Obsession with Thinness," "Deadly Persuasion: The Advertising of Alcohol & Tobacco," and "Spin the Bottle: Sex, Lies & Alcohol." I've written two books: Can't Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We Think and Feel (Simon & Schuster, 1999) and So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood and What Parents Can Do to Protect Their Kids (Ballantine 2008, co-authored with Diane E. Levin).
