Fake it 'til you make it

Eight years ago, I began doing pilates on the reformer in a small group class. During the first year, I mostly imitated what I saw the other, more experienced bodies doing. As we were lying on the reformer, feet in straps, legs raised overhead, balancing on our upper backs in the jackknife position, our instructor said, “This works the obliques, transverse abdominals, shoulder girdle stabilizers, and hip extensors. Are you getting that?” The others in the class would subtly nod or verbalize…See More

The Facts of Life

“When the world never seems to be living up to your dream, it’s time you started finding out what everything is all about”The summer of my 13th year, my friends and I spent our days at the Oceanside public pool. Reclining in sticky plastic chaise lounges, we coated ourselves in baby oil and turned like so many rotisserie chickens until we achieved the desired bronze. Lunches consisted of French fries with ketchup, squares of doughy concession-stand pizza, chewy sweet-tarts, and fun dip. If…See More

Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans

~John Lennon

Sure, I drank, but my drug of choice has always been planning.

What can I say? I love to plan. I plan my meals, outfits, workouts, workdays, weekends, vacations. You name it, I plan it. And, while I might not have been an extreme example of an alcoholic, I am an extreme planner.

Planning helps me feel (falsely) in control of my life. It’s one of the ways in…

“Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin’ is knowing what to throw away and knowing what to keep. ‘Cause every hand’s a winner, and every hand’s a loser and the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.” ~Kenny Rogers

It’s that time of the year when many of us pack up our belongings in cardboard boxes and move. To a new apartment or house, to a new city and maybe a new state. To be closer to this…

Thanks Jenna!  I didn't intend for my character to be an alcoholic... it just sort of happened.  I'm trying to make her not be the stereotypical alcoholic.  I want her to feel like a real person who's struggling.

Yes, I remember now. How is your book proposal coming? Any way I can help or support your work?

I met with my agent in November and we are getting to go out with my proposal. I've got a lot of editing to do over the next few weeks, however.

Be well.

Jenna--Can you remind me of how we know each other. I turned fifty last week and seemed to have lost a few brain cells when I turned the corner.

What are you working on?
