Thank you so much! For the encouragement, and the advice about chickens. We were supposed to have 5 laying hens, but then, well. one was "different than expected."
He's a rooster, I'm pretty sure. I asked a chicken-wise friend,…
Chickens! Ha. They are so easy really. If you have a yard without traffic immediately nearby you can let them go free range--i.e. just around your yard. If they know where their coop is, they'll go back to it all by themselves at night, though…
Oh, hey! Yes! I thought it was some kind of prerequisite, that the writers all had to have blogs...but I dunno. Things change rather quickly at PD...
For a long time I wondered if I was truly a "blogger." Then my 2-year anniversary came…
And to think--we wrote together at PD for quite a while and I never knew you had a blog. It makes me so happy to have found you here--and to be reading your glorious sentences again. How I love your writing, Jennifer!
What a great discussion...
So I've recently found myself on an unofficial study of such things, mostly by accident, because several of my blogging friends have had books come out recently. SCHUYLER'S MONSTER, by Rob Rummel Hudson, used a…
No advice for you, Jennifer. Except to say that I read the book right after it came out and LOVED it.
I've never written a book, but I imagine it's quite the labor of love. I can understand your attachment.
Oh, Hope. This, from you, is truly hopeful. I've been feeling flickerings, lately, for new ideas, but just like with my children, I have a hard time kniowing when to let go.
Thank you for weighing in with your experience and your gentle, wise…
I think you let go when your next book reaches down from the ether and grabs hold of you, claiming your creative energy and gently refocusing your purpose from one beloved book to the next promising idea. You'll know right away when it happens,…
Again, thank you. Your daughter reminds me of my son Bennett, who initially presented us wiith the most worry, but now? The word is his to claim. I sometimes wonder if this isn't a story all about Bennett, the boy who we truly never expected,…
By the way, I also had a preemie, born at two and a half pounds, who spent seven weeks in the NICU. She's now 26, living in Chile and just completed her master's thesis in international health--inspired, in part, by her beginnings. Life is…
A very wise someone once remarked to me, about the varying degrees of disability some children face, and how might all "rank" them. My answer to her then, and my feelings since and now, are this: It's a hard boat to row. Anyone who…

Again--so happy that you're blogging. And I'm amazed and inspired by your book--I listened to the promo trailer of it, and cannot wait to read it. You have such a way of capturing the poignancy of your life with your boys, with Avery.

Hi Jennifer! Thanks so much for the kind words! I've mostly been up to "Daring" things these days -- working on the Daring Book for Girls series with Miriam Peskowitz. Very fun! Congratulations on your book!
I shared a post titled "The Birth of the Diversity Blogs" today. I wanted to share about the various cultures and peoples of the world and I figured that I should make that the theme of my blog. :D Enjoy!
