This interview came out yesterday in New York Family Magazine. In this post-Sandusky era, I thought it would be a perfect piece for The Today Show to pick up. It seems we are all busy reporting on…Continue

Ever notice that sometimes we don't talk about important things because they are hard to talk about? For the past two weeks, Oprah has been discussing child sexual abuse. She interviewed child…Continue

For the past twenty years, I have shared one of my favorite guides, Life’s Little Instruction Book, as part of my New Year’s Eve celebration. The book is made up of tips and advice that help one lead a fuller, happier life. Some of my favorites include, “resist the temptation to buy a boat” and “compliment three people a day.” Traditionally, each person I am celebrating with adds a tip to the end of the book. One year, my brother-in-law added, “conserve water, shower with a…

I have heard them all. I have heard all the reasons why parents don’t discuss child sexual abuse prevention with their children. I have heard them so often that I can recite them by heart. As the new year approaches, I decided it would be a good idea to memorialize the top 10 reasons for not discussing the subject. I invite you to add any that may have been omitted.

As many of you know, I prosecute child abuse and sex crimes in New York City and wrote a book to help parents talk to their children about child sex abuse prevention called My Body Belongs to Me. In the wake of the Penn State scandal, as a prevention specialist, it is difficult to watch Sandusky get so much air time and sit idly by as the media remains silent on the subject of prevention. As such, I am sharing with my contacts, and…

Thanks so much for your warm welcome. I may pick your brain in the future as I'm currently working on a project about women who have gone missing and one of the is 15 and another is in her 20's so may need information re: child abuse. But thanks so much for reaching out. If you need anything just ask.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Jill! I look forward to being part of the She Writes community and finding new women friends from this vert talented group. All the best, Marianne Curan
Thanks Jill! I appreciate your offer very much! Liza
Thanks for the welcome. I am amazed that YOU contacted me as one of the things I would like to write about is violence against women and sexual abuse. I started a Rape Crisis center in New York in the early eighties and have worked with sexually abused children both as an LPN in a residential treatment facility and as a case manager in community services.
Two years ago I started working on a BlogTalk Radio program about violence against women and finally took a job working for a dual agency as Director of Operations. The idealistic young woman who founded a rape crisis center was absolutely shocked by the corruption I saw. Any thoughts?
Friends? Awesome! Thanks Jill.
Many thanks Jill, :)
