I admit it. I am more than terrible writing query letters. I was recently thrown out of my kayak by an agent I visited in New York who looked at my book from only a sentence in an email. It is hard not to think of the divine (beauty) when watching them, as well as the human opposite (our toxic waste effecting nature) as you suggest. And I love thinking of pelicans as totems as you suggest.

Tina Deschamps said… - I don't have any published short stories, so I'd feel more comfortable giving you a novel excerpt to read than a finished, but unpublished, short story. The only other writing I have is non-fiction - food and travel directed toward a female audience. If you would rather. I agree that it's probably too soon for synopsis.
I don't think I'd have a problem reading about child sexual abuse - though I unfortunately have some personal experience in the area. I'll just have to see if your writing style speaks to me.
