Help with a Query Letter

I admit it.  I am more than terrible writing query letters.  I was recently thrown out of my kayak by an agent I visited in New York who looked at my book from only a sentence in an email.  Some months have passed. It is time for me to pick up the oar again.  Could anyone who has time read this one and give me some feedback?  I would sooo appreciate it...Thanks in advance,  Joyce De SpoelberchJ de S Associates9 Shagbark Rd, Wilson PtSouth Norwalk, CT …See More

One further thought, Lily. If you cut and paste the gmail address into a new mailbox, I believe you should be successful. At this point, this may be the best way to submit. But again, I'll check with our Webmaster after the holiday. Let me know…

Joyce,

enjoyed "Pelican Totem"--we head to Goat Rock beach often on the weekends, where the mouth of the Russian River meets the sea; there too, we see those pelicans "shattering" the water's surface. It is hard not to think of the divine (beauty) when watching them, as well as the human opposite (our toxic waste effecting nature) as you suggest. And I love thinking of pelicans as totems as you suggest.

Child abuse is not a topic I like to read about, but I'm willing to exchange a chapter of Veil of Walls if you'd like. Veil of Walls is about a child in a difficult situation - Iran - but I wouldn't call it abuse.

I don't have any published short stories, so I'd feel more comfortable giving you a novel excerpt to read than a finished, but unpublished, short story. The only other writing I have is non-fiction - food and travel directed toward a female audience. If you would rather. I agree that it's probably too soon for synopsis.

I don't think I'd have a problem reading about child sexual abuse - though I unfortunately have some personal experience in the area. I'll just have to see if your writing style speaks to me.

Hi Joyce. I have a completed manuscript and would like an objective opinion. Check out my website www.patriciapanahi.com and look for excerpt and synopsis of Veil of Walls. Let me know.

Joyce,

I'd be interested in possibly exchanging manuscripts for critique. Perhaps we could send each other first chapters and synopsis for review to see if it's a good fit?

Warmest,
Tina
