About BoomUnderground.com

Posted on January 23, 2010 at 10:15am 1 Comment

Not so long ago I found myself reading a More magazine article on how to camouflage varicose veins. I perused the writer's recommendations, studied the how-to photos carefully, and realized that short of keeping a small Third World child in a closet for the express purpose of painting concealer on the backs of my calves, there was no way for me to hide the evidence of too many years of waitressing and genetic misfortune. Suddenly I was pissed— not because I care so much about the backs of my… Continue

Looking for Baby-Boom-Era Women of Words

Posted on December 8, 2009 at 9:30am 4 Comments

Greetings! I'm new to She Writes, and am hoping that those of you who share my generational outlook- that of a Baby Boomer- will consider contributing to the new ezine that I've launched. BoomUnderground.com was created as a forum for humorous and informative takes on what it was and is like to be a member of "the generation that shook the status quo." The site uses elements from our funkadelic youths as springboards for articles on media, products, and issues that impact our lives today.… Continue

Thanks for the welcome, Julie. I feel like I'm walking into a cocktail party and don't know anyone. Am I wearing the right shoes? Do I have spinach in my teeth? Will anyone talk to me? And then Julie comes up and shakes my hand. Now, lead me to the buffet and I should be just fine.

Hello everyone! I'm a writer, published in children's lit, fiction, nonfiction and poetry, and I teach in the Spalding University MFA in Writing brief residency program in Louisville. I live in the woods in Vermont and will drive a dozen miles for a good skinny latte. I try never to run out of red zin and feed my muse lots of Ben & Jerry's. Would love to hear from other folks in the group.

Thanks for the friend request. I look forward to this group. I am the tail end of the baby boomer generation so I sometimes feel like a tweenie. But I love the strength of this age, so I look forward to reading the words of women here.

Hi Julie,

Thank you for the wonderful feedback. All this has been scary and daring of me. But it does feel right. And I know my Dad and I have gotten much closer. I have been helping him create a comedy act. He quite a kind character and I love him so.
If you have areas I am missing, please feel free to tell me. I am in a huge learning curve right now and finding my path and voice. I have stripped all the way to show my honestly. For that is not something I can fake. It sounds like it is working. I am so amazed at how well breaking my silence and being solution directed is finding me people like you. Thank you for all the assist.
Cheers,
Renee

Julie,
I'm very flattered that you would like me to contribute. Yes. I have traveled a fair amount, but I'm not a constant traveler. My blog on the other site is more insights into the places that I have traveled. What are you looking for? Marian
