There’s certainly plenty of information, lots of blogs and dozens of books for sale on Amazon, telling you exactly how and why to self-publish. The people who wrote these books, incidentally, must know what they’re talking about. The books themselves are, for obvious reasons, invariably self-published.

I'm a big believer in lifelong learning as an essential part of building your writing career, but I'm starting to really question whether we all need to be spending a fortune on formal…

Great, Karen, let's do it. I suspect I'll need all the support I can get! ; - ) so would love to be part of a group here or on the NaNoWriMo site ...

Karen, Belated welcome to the novelist group! I hope you're finding your way around. If you haven't already done so, please share a little about what you're working on in the "Show Me Your Novel" discussion thread and/or share your published novels on the "Our Published Novels" one.
We do a live chat on Fridays at 3EST; instructions on how to participate are in the "Our Water Cooler" box near the top of the group page. Do join us! And we save the wall for discussion, but welcome links to helpful blog posts on the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” thread.
I've been traveling since end of March, but am back and will look forward to seeing your font.
