A New Year and a New U.S. President

Happy New Year!   I wish everyone reading this post a happy new year filled with new purpose and new adventures!   I began this year basking in the final 19 days of Barack Obama's presidency, waiting to find out if Donald Trump was really going to be inaugurated as our 45th president.  Now that he has, and I participated in the Woman's March on Boston, I am ready for the adventures my work as a citizen has in store for me.  The next 4 years will be crazy busy at my house and in my neighborhood, but I'm rolling up my sleeves and I am ready to do what needs to be done to help my fellow citizens hold onto the rights and protections they have worked hard for.  I am ready to work hard to protect all of the progress our country has achieved related to civil rights and the preservation of the environment.  I am ready to work to protect the National Parks so that they don't have to compromise their work as wilderness sanctuaries just to stay open.…See More

April (Snow) Showers

"April (Snow) Showers"

Nature is an artist,

Cross-hatching streamers of snowflakes;

Snowflakes falling from white clouds

Falling on tree branches,

On leaf mulch,

On crocuses,

On houses,

On fences,

On stone walls

On cars.

Nature laughs mischievously at us

For foolishly believing we can begin wearing our Bermuda shorts and sandals so soon,

Anticipating warm days full of anarchical frolicking in…

Autumn Haikus

Posted on October 23, 2015 at 11:00am 0 Comments

Autumn inspires all sorts of artful expression in me.  Autumn is my favorite season!  The foliage of New England has been quite stunning this month and I have loved moving about outdoors. When my friend and I met to write last Monday evening, we wrote some haiku inspired by the season and shared them in popcorn fashion.  Below are the  ones I wrote.…

With apologies for being tardy with my welcome, we're delighted to have you in the novelist group!

You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. We save the wall for discussion, so please refrain from linking to blog posts there, but do add them in the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread.

And we do a live chat every Wednesday at 1EST; instructions on how to participate if you haven't done so already are in the "Our Water Cooler Wednesdays" box near the top of the group page.

Novelist Group Moderator
Bestselling Author of The Four Ms. Bradwells, The Wednesday Sisters, and The Language of Light, a finalist for Barbara Kingsolver's Bellwether Prize

Feeding the Writer with a Day Trip

Northfield is my favorite town to take a day trip in the warm seasons. It is an rich autumn trip to drive by the apple orchards and farmhouses. The town is just far enough from the Cities that it feels like you left on a vacation. You have to pass…See More
