"What a great thread--so interesting to hear what everyone is reading. In my blog post I asked for recommendations for book review blogs people feel do right by women, but since I'm not expecting a lot of traffic (it's my first blog post…"

"I agree about the YA community. It's somehow a friendlier and more supportive bunch. Having said that, I have several very wonderful friends who are writers of adult fiction and who have been nothing but supportive. But those are friends. Maybe…"

"I love the YA community--it seems easier to connect with other writers in a supportive environment than in the adult writing world. Are you an SCBWI member? I confess that your reference to the hectic "gotta make it in the first month"…"

working in more than one field

I'm interested in the experience of other writers who have successfully switched from writing for one audience to writing for another. AMBITIOUS WOMEN NOVELISTS

Yesterday I agreed with Lizzie Skurnick's view that there is a bias toward "ambitious" novels. I suggested that those who determine whose books get on the lists and win the prizes often prefer novels of greater scope to smaller, relationship-oriented stories. Today I was interested to come across a blog about Barbara Kingsolver's Lacuna in The Guardian… Continue
