5 Benefits to a Boss with No Experience

Jump Right In - No Experience RequiredMiuccia Prada studied to be a mime for 5 years before taking the helm of her father’s fashion business. That’s the kind of past business experience you’d look for in a boss, right? A boss who knows how to appear stuck in an invisible box. Who knows the best bulk supplier of white face paint. Not exactly. But the entrepreneurial path to CEO/founder is not always a conventional one. I once worked for a start-up publishing company, started up by a professional…See More

Brother, Can You Spare a ... Platinum Card?

An NYC homeless man exhibited true entrepreneurial chutzpa yesterday when he garnered an AmEx Platinum card from a passer-by low on spare change. He didn’t steal the card. It was handed to him. Here you go, Homeless Guy. Go get what you need.In the act, Homeless Guy demonstrated two classic entrepreneurial characteristics: charisma and the ability to get something for…See More

Blog content vs. book content

Thanks for the great webinar. I know you touched on this, but could you expand a bit on blog vs. book content. I have finished a non-fiction proposal with complete (detailed) chapter outlines, and have been advised to get cracking blogging on the topic. But I'm paralyzed....do I use some of the content from the chapter outlines? Will publishers say "that's already out there" and need completely new content? (please no!) I attended a seminar yesterday and was told that I should post all the…See More

I’m not Mr. Lebowski. You’re Mr. Lebowski. I’m the Dude. So that’s what you call me. You know, uh, that or His Dudeness or Duder, or El Duderino.” – The Big Lebowski

While being interviewed about his multi-billion dollar Virgin empire, entrepreneur Richard Branson was quick to point out that his business is nothing like a “big, giant corporation.” Really dude? One of your divisions is building a rocket to take customers on… Continue

Dude, Where's my Desk?

Posted on August 12, 2010 at 6:30am 0 Comments

Industrial, loft-style floor plans. Banks of windows. Razor scooters to zip from one end of the office to the other. Basketball hoops. Video games. Ah the super cool, ultra-trendy offices of entrepreneurial America. Not exactly. My friend Harry recently arrived at a new job to find that he didn’t have a desk or even a chair to call his own. Harry’s new entrepreneur boss motioned to his own desk saying “I’m not always here.” An entire drawer was made… Continue
