I just read a really great article on NPR about the tough road to publication and subsequent struggles for the author of one of my favorite Sci-Fi classics and childhood reads, A Wrinkle in Time. I can say for certain that this book and the…

I found a $100 bill on the sidewalk the other day. It was drizzling on a damp winter evening, and I had just exited the doors of Walgreens. I turned the corner, and that's when I found it: a hundred dollar bill. I think I was bending down and picking it up before the conscious part of my brain even realized how spectacularly awesome this was, let alone what were the chances of stumbling on a bill that big.
“Oh wow!” A voice rang out above me just as my fingers were grasping the wet…

Rebecca Lane Beittel said… I haven't been on SheWrites much lately. Been busy doing my own "thang" I suppose. I'm curious as to what my SheWrites friends are up to, writing-wise, though. Right now, I'm waiting to hear back from 2 agents who have requested my full manuscript of The Time Minders. I'm still working on Kingdoms of Blood & Magic, but not as diligently as I should, since I've been querying/submitting for the TTM, doing scads of tutoring at my daughters' school and work for our church's youth group. How about YOU?
Joy Amber said… Thank you for your insightful blog. I always need to hear that it is just plain 'o.k.' to want to do more than what the world expects of me as a wife and mother. However, what I expect from myself is the big question, and you phrased how I feel perfectly. I have a tiny blog on my page that touches the subject, but nothing compared to the level of intelligence you put into this piece. I loved the "hustlin" and was nodding, talking out loud to my computer screen;)Somehow finding value in my own dreams while fostering the dreams of my family is where I get stuck. Knowing that other women are walking along beside me up that hill...more fun to walk with a partner than alone. Answer to the question, I don't feel I am a Girl Friday because I am struggling to feel like I do atleast one job really well.
