Kobbie,

My connection to the South is purely dream-like. I am working on a novel whose protagonist is Southern aristocracy-gone-bad. She ends up dealing drugs in Asia. I dreamed about this novel pretty much as soon as I returned from Asia, years and years and years ago. Something about Bangkok ... I don't, know; then I had another dream about three people in Bangkok and a drug deal gone bad,, and the story started. I wasn't interested in writing it b/c, well, GROSS. Who wants to write about drug dealers?

Me, I guess.

So as I struggle toward a daily writing schedule with the whole "two young children" lifestyle, this character and this story is always in my head. Some of it is on paper. I don't know how it will all take shape--the story or my ability to write the story.

Until I can actually sit down and write, I am contenting myself with learning as much about the South as I can, and as much about dealing drugs as I can, while staying alive and at liberty!

Hi there -- just wanted to drop by your page and invite you personally (or at least virtually) to our first-ever She Writes Seattle meetup, celebrating our first-anniversary! We are so grateful to the event's organizer, Judith van Praag, for taking a risk and stepping up to host. I hope you will support her and bring yourself and other women who write (no need for them to be members) to the Seattle gathering. At the meetup writers will take part in the She Writes "Book Communion," where attendees arrive with one book, their own or another She Writers', new or gently used, and leave with another book as a meaningfully way to support one another's work. We will also be blowing out a candle and making a wish for our upcoming writing year -- along with She Writers gathering in 16 cities around the country. I hope you will be part of this historic (well, at least kind of cool) occasion, and RSVP now to Judith here.

Kobbie, Welcome to the Southern Writer's Group. We're delighted to have you. I'm away at the moment so this will have to be short. Will check in later to learn more about you. Please go over and introduce yourself to the group and jump in to a discussion or start one. Best, Nicky
