Thank you for being so honest, Zetta, and please don't take our comments personally. If people are complaining about a publisher, you can offset that by being the best publisher you can be. When you hear what people are complaining…

There isn't anything I said here that I haven't said to my publisher. When I say, 'my publisher' that is not one person, but a whole slew of people that work on different aspects of publishing. Some of them were good, but some…

Good for you Shawn. You understand completely that a woman can complain about her husband, but not hate the institution of marriage.

Shawn, if you knew the answer I got when I asked my publisher if the cover was mine or theirs, you'd know that you can't get a straight answer. Maybe they don't know. He said it was mine, but if I used it again, I have to buy it from…

I think we all need to form our own AA, Authors' Anonymous. We need to get together, air our grievances against publishers and that whole ilk, form our own companies, publish ourselves, and tell all commercial publishers where they…

Thank you, Barbara. I just questioned my publisher about another matter: the book cover. It is so perfect, I asked if the cover belonged to me, in other words, can I use it on, say, Book II. Their answer was so vague, I'm not sure whether…

Barbara, any contract I have is with the publishing company, and they say that I get 100% royalties. How can this hold for book outlets who decided to discount the book and end up selling it half price? How can the publishing company…

I find this hard to believe, but I was told by my publisher that even if your book is advertised by outlets like Amazon for $10.99 and your retail price is $14.99, they have to give you royalties on the $14.99. The loss is…

Experience: Not Always the Best Teacher

I was doing this woman’s piano when my hypoglycemia kicked in. I had overslept and rushed to the tuning job without breakfast. The lady had a keen eye and asked, “Can I give you something to eat? Would you like a banana?” “Only if you put cereal under it,” I answered— you know how outspoken I am. She grabbed this box of cereal that was some sort of granola mixture, and quickly threw it into a bowl, poured milk in it, all the while telling me how healthy it is. “This will pick you up right…See More

Thank you, Regina.  Maybe I'm offended by the publisher because I don't know the standard practice in that field. I'm new to publishing.

I forgot to mention below that in addition to the $4.80 per book, you have to pay to have the books shipped to you, which can be another .45 a book on a Thousand Book order. The author would be paying $5.25 a book. After the…

Maybe I'm naive, but I think that when you order books from your publisher, the math is unrealistic and geared for their own profit. I am told that I would get 70% discount on the price of my book, which they set at $15.99. That means…

I forgot to mention one more thing in my reply.   That week without electricity, without water, without a flushing toilet, without heat, hell DID freeze over.

A Love Story

 A Love Story

My grey tabby was brought to my door about a year and a half ago by a young girl who was a student. I don’t know what she was studying, but she had some kind of connection with the Trenton Animal Rescue. I was looking for a cat and she brought me this tiny little fur ball  that I adored immediately and named after one of my favorite songs, Emily.

I enjoyed Emily so much, I kept her on my left arm all the time. Trouble is, I…

                               No Green Thumb Here

                                              By

                                      Lucille Joyner

Once upon a time, I lived in a town that gave awards to residents and businesses that maintained, improved, and beautified their properties. Out of curiosity, I attended one of their ceremonies and every person who was called forward, regardless of age or stage received a plaque…

Blogs help you market yourself and also can serve as an outlet for daily writing. Try Google's blogger or WordPress (the latter is more popular but the former might be easier).

Did you ever get an answer to your questions about ownership of images (pictures you have taken) as well as letters?  I was very curious to hear any answers but never did.

That is kind of you dear Lucille. It's in the works, gaining momentum as we speak, and without taking away all of what I love. That's the beauty of doing what we know best.

Blessings to you as well, Justine :-)

Regarding Jaeky and the puke. I have a lovely sister who took me in after my second divorce. Not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth I had to tolerate her 3 evil white cats. One in particular always knew when I was writiing. I was pulling my hair out trying to come up with a funny blog around 11pm when I heard a crunch sound behind me. (My sister worked nights) I turned around to see blood pumping out of a headless mouse onto a rather expensive round hooked rug. After screaming every obscenity I knew I folded the rug taco style and ran out back flinging its contents into the night. The next day I saw the carcass impaled on a holly hedge. I wonder if this is how Hitchcock got started?
