Thanks for your advice. I find it so hard to concoct what to say to agents. Like if I say, "I know you represent XYZ--I read it on your web page," then it's redundant--they already know it.

Also I noticed you had mentioned that the memoir you wrote was edited by an editor from Harper Collins. Are you happy with this editing? How much did it cost? Sorry for being so nosy, but I am not sure I'll be able to publish my book--it's a YA paranormal, and there's too much of that right now. So I might have to self-publish.Thanks again,

- Hi Laila, I haven't been on SheWrites for a couple weeks because I've got some heavy stuff going on in my life and I'm pretty distracted. Also, I'm SUPPOSED to be reading through the last chapter of Angels Carry the Sun, but I haven't done any of that either in awhile! And Lilly Press was saying April 1 was the "deadline." Well, I'm doing the best I can! Almost done, anyway. And thank goodness there's not much more left to do. You work and have a family I guess, too?

Heather Summerhayes Cariou said… - Depends on who the publisher is. There are a few out there who are predator publishers, just one step above self publishing, and they ask YOU for $$ in the deal. If a publisher is interested, contact the list of agents you had thought to submit to, and let them know. There is hardly an agent that will turn you down if a legit publisher is ready to deal, and an agent can negotiate better than you.
