"What Do You Want For Christmas?"

Marriage + The Holidays = This.

Only married people (or children of married people) can understand how a seemingly simple and harmless question like "What Do You Want For Christmas?" can become so complicated and hurtful...

"Pitch Me!"

Have you ever been asked what you're working on next? What you're thinking about working on next? Ideas for things you might consider possibly maybe working on next? If you're like most writers, you've been asked that question, and, if you're like most writers, you've gotten responses similar to what The Frenemy says in this Annoying Conversation: "Pitch Me!" (Even Though It's A Waste of Time To Listen to Your Unfinished Ideas): boredom,…

"Why Isn't Jennifer Weiner Complaining More? (Even Though We Usually Complain That She Complains Too Much!)"

Posted on November 9, 2011 at 11:12am 16 Comments

Well, I was trying to decide which video I'd post here this week, but clearly the most relevant of the movies I've made to date is the one I posted on YouTube and my own site today: it's about what happened yesterday on Twitter between a few book bloggers and Jennifer Weiner. As most of you know, Jennifer Weiner has been trying to raise awareness of the huge discrepancy between the number of male authors vs. female authors reviewed…

How sweet of you to say you had a good experience working with me; I was about to say the same of you! I love collaborating with talented, funny, clever people; there's nothing better in my book. I never understand editors who make great writers jump through hoops; I guess they feel they have to justify their existence. (Hey, maybe that was my problem. No, I can be brutal when necessary. I think it had more to do with the fact that a) I was a highly paid vet; b) I was a mom who had "cut back" (ha!) to a four-day week and no longer wanted to stay till 9 every night for no good reason; and c) TV Guide is one of many dying magazines. To be honest, I really don't know how it hangs on; I'm only glad it does for the few friends who are still there. Yes, I'm in NYC, Brooklyn, Park Slope. Matthew turns 6 on July 10 ("Sunrise, Sunset"). Where are you these days? Working on anything? No, of course you are! Yes, let's definitely stay in touch. I'm trying to change direction but man, this writing thing is HARD. I could use all the encouragement you have the time to dish out. Beth
