Leslie,

I'm currently in an MFA program and can't say enough about Stephen Kuusisto. We read his memoir "Eavesdropping: A Memoir of Blindness and Listening" and he came to speak/workshop with us. He's a wonderful writer and one of the nicest you'll ever meet. Ran into him at AWP a year later and he was still as charming as ever. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hi Leslie,
I got your message through the memoir group about a reading list for your class. I have been working with an independent editor while I write my memoir about my marriage to a man from rural China. This editor gave me a memoir reading list. Here are some of my favorites:

Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight by Alexandra Fuller (childhood in Rhodesia)
Casting with a Fine Thread by Wendy Kann (childhood in Rhodesia)
Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealey (cancer/surgery, living with a deformed face)
Borrowed Finery by Paula Fox (alcoholic parents, abandonment)
Her Mother's Daughter by Linda Carroll (daughter of Paula Fox, mother of Courtney Love)
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls (dysfunctional family)

I also just finished "Fearless Confessions" by Sue William Silverman, which is like a how-to book for memoir writing and a memoir, all rolled into one.

Good luck with your class! It sounds wonderful!!
