I did wait until I sold the book, and that was too late. My one suggestion to anyone who is serious about publishing a book is to get yourself on the internet network: blog, twitter, forums (VK, facebook, She Writes, Turning Point).

Build your fan base by reviewing books, interviewing authors or agents or your neighbor's dog.

Keep in mind the kind of writing you do and tailor your presence to that.
