Gwyn, Blio will be very nice for those who can use materials on a computer in eBook formats. However, my teaching materials are meant to be printed and used in the classroom. From what I understand, and I could be mistaken, eReadering devices and…

I would love to have a "readers 'n writers" bookshop akin to a farmers' market. I imagine a place where writers could sell their works and readers could browse genres and each could engage the other directly. I do this every week…

Thank you Mia for this post. I do not really understand much about Facebook's policies, privacy or otherwise. Therefore, the information provided is really helpful and greatly appreciated. I make it a practice not to provide my real name or a…

I found a couple of other sites where writers can sell their works, Sribd and DocStoc. They are both well established. Like Smashwords and Off the Bookshelf, neither provide ways to control infringement, but they look like good ways for authors and…

Emily, I started a discussion, Watermarking & Micropublishing, in this group when I was alerted to a potential solution to rampant copyright infringement on the Web. More information can be found in that discussion. In a nutshell, during my…

I just saw this. Great question. I am anxiously awaiting the answer as well. I sent my manuscript to the US Copyright Office in Washington with a fee for a copyright. On their website, indications were that although my certificate won't arrive…

To all who may be interested in anti-piracy systems for eBooks and PDF files, here is what I learned about SavoirSoft. It is both web-based application you can put on your own web-sites or if you don't have a web-site, it is a micro-publishing…

Copyright Protection & Digital Distribution

I understand that copyright laws protect all forms of my curricula and books. But how can copyrights really protect digital materials, eBooks, PDF files, etc? From what I hear, most BIG publishers effectively protect their copyrights for digital materials by "licensing" it to the users and watermark it accordingly. Are there similar services available to independent writers and small publishers? For instance, if I allow teachers to download my books from the Internet, can't they just send copies…See More

Nils, Thank you for your reply. I have found a site called SavoirSoft that I am investigating. It is a new service and seems like something that would work for me. I will let others know the pro's and con's after my research of them is…

For those using Smashwords, Off the Bookshelf, and other eBook sites; do you know how they keep buyers of your electronic books from copying and giving them away to others? I'm told that people using eReaders cannot copy eBooks and give them…

I too only have PDFs of my kindergarten teaching materials and they really don't lend themselves to eReaders since they are used in the classroom. Also, I don't have any HTML skills. So a friend suggested a new site that lets me upload my…

As a kindergarten teacher and author of curricula and simple songs that make learning fun, I am not sure I am in the same league as the rest of you. But I will stick my neck out anyway and ask the question.I have been told of a simple solution that allows my workbooks, songs, and other materials to sold and distributed in PDF form to fellow teachers while still protecting my copyrights. The solution is to license my materials through a micro-publishing marketplace on the Internet.Has anyone…See More

I'm a teacher who loves to create curricula for early childhood educators that is both fun and useful for their students. I am trying to sell some of my teaching materials in PDF form over the Internet. However, I haven't figured out how to protect my copyrights for the soft-copy versions of my curricula I sell over the Web.

It would be nice to learn from writers and publishers how they have protected their copyrights for soft-copy versions of their materials distributed over the Internet.
