I like this.  I adore Naipul's writing but thought the comment was ridiculous and unnecessary.... it has made him look silly and egocentric (which he may be).  Just another bit of proof that great writers are not always great people,…

The Moment I Knew   I was standing with family and friends in Collioure, France, watching the most spectacular and beautiful fireworks I had ever seen when I knew my marriage was finished.  It was Bastille Day, 2002.  A little less…

I like it.  I have lately been thinking about what I read and why.  I don't know exactly what constitutes social media, other than twiiter, Facebook and blogs..... But as I do a lot of my news reading online I need to include that,…

See my take on this... published in HUffPo the same day as the Picoult/Weiner whine. While I agree that many women writers may not get the acclaim that Franzen and other males do, the cream rises (Atwood, Drabble, Morrison, Strout.... etc. etc. who…

Lisa Solod commented on the blog post 'The Great Competition for the Saddest Story Ever Told'
It continually surprises me that people believe that just because they have led a horrible life they automatically have a book in them. Being a writer is much more than telling a tale of woe. Thanks for sharing this with writers here; I hope it…
