I blog regularly in support of my book which I published almost a year ago. The thing is, I'm not sure how effective the blog is in encouraging readers to invest in my book. I enjoy blogging for the most part and it certainly keeps my writing skills sharp. But some days, I feel like I'm talking to myself. For all of you bloggers, what has been your experience in blogging vs. book sales off of your website? I would love to hear from you. I could use a little encouragement about now...…

I can't believe how long it's been since I posted a blog on here. I've had some good news in the last months. A book publisher has taken on the marketing and distribution of my book The Great Escape; A Girl's Guide to Leaving a Marriage! Lots of exciting things coming up for the book and a recent article published was terrific.…

I've been ignoring my fiction. I've been spending all my time with my kids, boyfriend, friends and family drinking wine and enjoying the holidays. Now, I'm concentrating on promoting my latest book but I'm finding it overwhelming and everytime I make one step forward I'm taking two steps back. I'll be reading some helpful blogs here on She Writes to get me motivated and inspired!

In 2006 I had this great idea that I should write a book sharing some of my experiences as "the woman who left her marriage...". Soon this idea morphed into a self help guide for women. I started writing in long hand whenever I had the chance. I started reading tons of books in relation to parenting and divorce. At this point I didn't actually think I would finish it. I thought to myself "oh here's another one of your great ideas you start but then soon abandon when the fire burns…

Meg Waite Clayton said… Welcome to the novelist group, Lisa. If you haven’t done so already, you might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion.
We do a live chat at 1 EST on the first Wednesdays of each month, with instructions on how to participate in the "Our Water Cooler" box near the top of the group page. And we save the wall for discussion, but welcome links to helpful blog posts on the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread and to published books in the “Our Published Novels” one.
I hope you’ll enjoy the group!
Hey lady! Thanks for the friend request and it's very nice to meet you!

A lovely thing to stand for.
I'm not wild about photos of myself either, but in this day of folks posting photos all over the internet, I've gotten used to having them all over the place, including some really dreadful ones. It's sort of liberating, once you get over it.
Meg Waite Clayton said… Lisa,
Thanks for your friend request, and I would love to be friends, but … There are so many places for folks to promote books online, and so few venues for writers to connect, and I really value She Writes for that connection - getting to know other writers and helping each other (help and support that was indispensible to me before and as I was getting published, and still is). Because of that, I've long held to a policy of accepting friendships only from people who don't use book jacket covers or other promotional materials as their "face" here. I do understand the desire to have folks know we have books they might buy - please believe me on this. I certainly keep the jackets of my novels up on my homepage. But I like to think we are here for something different, and nearly every one of the wonderful writers here – including many award winning ones – do use personal photos. If you decide to change your profile photo, I would be delighted to count you as a friend. But of course will understand if you choose not to. In any event, I’ll enjoy seeing you around here.
Best,
Meg
