Great Speeches aren't Written; They're Rewritten

Posted on August 20, 2012 at 2:44pm 0 Comments

This is my performance at the semifinals of the International Speech Contest in Orlando, Florida last week. If you had seen the speech the first time I gave it in January, you would not even recognize this as the same speech. Edit, get coached, get evaluated, rewrite, practice, repeat. Months of work to create a 7:25 minute speech. I hope you enjoy it.

100 Prompts in 100 Days equals a Contest!

Writing Prompt: Societal Change

Posted on September 17, 2011 at 9:33pm 0 Comments

Day of Rage

The first act of my WIP is all about the overthrow of existing societal structures. In researching what it takes to effect a major change at the societal level, I was surprised to find that the tipping point is so low.…

Liz.

I write fantasy and I might be interested in critique-exchange for both short stories and novels. At the moment, I don't have any readers and it shows in the end product. But I don't want to join any other online service. One-on-one - yeah, maybe. Let's try it first. Here is my latest published fantasy story: http://www.sorceroussignals.com/AnswerisYes.html

See if you like it. Because if you don't, you probably wouldn't trust my critique. I wouldn't mind reading something short of yours, before we commit to the novel length.

BTW: I just signed a contract with a publisher for my first novel. A small publisher, with no advance, but I think it's a good start.

Liz, thanks for the friend request! You mention Scrivener in a post above, I just discovered it last week and am loving it. Great for pulling together all the notes and research that goes along with writing a book. Am working at the moment on inputing everything into it.

Liz, Welcome to the novelist group! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. And we do a live chat every Wednesday; hope you can join us for that!
