The month of August marked twenty years since I made the move from the United States to Israel. I came here for what was supposed to be ten months, met my husband and stayed. After years spent trying to pretend that writing was "just" a hobby, a friend convinced me to set up a blog with him. At some point along the way, the blog became mine alone, and I turned it into a platform that reflected my views as an increasingly assimilated American living in Israel. I rarely touch on topics that…See More

A heart divided in two

A heart divided in two

Haunting me

Tempting you

And I wonder

As I imagine your eyes

Your touch, your smile

If I will somehow lose myself

A heart divided in two

Hidden by me

Found by you

Unexpectedly

Silently, recklessly, gladly

Without looking, I leap

In terrifying, joyous free fall

A heart divided in two

A piece I keep for me

The rest I…

The Prince and the Rainbow

Posted on March 20, 2011 at 8:29am 0 Comments

I saw a little prince

Climbing in a tree

He scampered to and fro

He didn’t notice me

I watched him leap from branch to branch

He climbed so very high

And suddenly that tree became

A rainbow in the sky

Up among the clouds he went

And quickly disappeared

Then somewhere in the distance

A crowd began to cheer

I looked up at the…

With you

Don’t know how long forever lasts

What’s done is done; what’s past is past

Don’t know what I’m supposed to do

Just want to spend my days with you

Walking, talking, holding hands

Side by side in distant lands

Sharing secrets, fleeting glances

Hold you close for stolen dances

Music meant for you and me

Close my eyes; you’re all I see

Don’t know what I’m going to…

Thanks for your help and encouragement, Liza, about the chat! SheWrites has the new one posted on the Chats page, so could you write it in that little area on the group front page? :) Rebecca

Li Liza. Thanks for your message, and nice to hear from you. Yes, I have read that book, and it's a lot of fun.  My memoir is somewhat on hold but still something I'm planning on getting back to at some point.  We've had some medical stuff going on that has sapped a lot of energy, but once I feel back to normal I want to start working on the book again.

Any news on your end?  Hope all is great,

Tracy

Thanks for your kind message about my article, Liza. I'm working on a memoir about marrying my husband and moving to Japan, and there are some sections in it about being Jewish here, but to tell the truth, being Jewish doesn't mean much here. Japan is such a homogenous country that if you're Western/white, you really stand out, and you become just a foreigner, with no other real identity. (Even if you're married into a Japanese family.) Also, many people here know very little about Jewish people, it seems. So that in itself is sort of interesting!

Hi Liza. I love that your son's list is heavy on the soccer. That's too cute. Where in Isreal do you live, but the way? My brother went to med school in Tel Aviv.

About my writing, I'm working on and off (more off lately, though...) on a memoir project about marrying someone from another country/culture/world: my Japanese husband. He's the love of my live but absolutely the last person I ever thought I'd end up with, and Japan is the last place I'd evert hought I'd live (and moving for a man was the last thing I ever thought I'd do!)

My latest piece, which partly deals with this topic, just came out in a journal called Asian Jewish Life (a title my husband thinks is *hilarious*). If you're interested, there's alink to it here: http://www.fourstories.org/about_tracy_slater.html But please don't feel compelled to be interested!

Anyway, happy to have "met" you,

Tracy
