Words of Wisdom VS Words of Conviction

'Nothing stinks like a pile of unpublished writing' says Sylvia Plath. I think that's probably true if you're a well established writer. But, if you're a new, less published writer, I think there are many other things that stink far more. A teenage boys bedroom for instance. So, I will politely, and with the utmost respect, disagree for my group, which is the latter. A pile of writing is writing done. It's experience. It's a sign that you have worked hard at your craft. You've suffered through…See More

It is worth mentioning, for future reference, that the creative power which bubbles so pleasantly in beginning a new book quiets down after a time, and one goes on more steadily. Doubts creep in. Then one becomes resigned. Determination not to give in, and the sense of an impending shape keep one at it more than anything.

Of Sex and Men

Posted on July 8, 2009 at 10:30pm 0 Comments

Statistics prove that men think about sex every 5.3 seconds. Others argue that it's more along the line of 60 to 90 seconds. Regardless of the exact numbers, we can all agree men think about sex ALOT. This means just (lets just say) 90 seconds after the moment of climax, men are already thinking about when and where they're going to get it next. Tell me honestly then, is there any way at all that a woman can entirely fulfill her man?

This isn't what disturbs me though. What does, is… Continue

Women, Fiction and the Voice of Mary Shelley

Posted on July 8, 2009 at 9:52pm 0 Comments

Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein in 1814 when she was only nineteen years old, having grown up in a household vibrant with writers’ energy all around her. Her father was William Godwin, a well-known author, and her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, was also a writer and predominant feminist. Although coming from such a background, Mary Shelley was forced to publish her first novel, Frankenstein, anonymously. Women at this time were appreciated largely for their ability to birth babies and fulfill… Continue

Mississippi Milieu

Last night I read 'On Being Ill' by Virginia Woolf. She said that countless times the Sky plays out it's most beautiful shows to an empty house. ( ie. no one pays much attention)...So, I looked up and then around.

I saw a blue sky with only a speckled amount of clouds moving as one across the vastness, slow and steady. I saw love bugs high in the air and low to the ground. Flying, buzzing, aimlessly in love as one. I felt the sun on my bare skin, cool breeze to dry my sweat and cool… Continue

Signs that I need some kind of RETREAT!

Posted on July 3, 2009 at 6:57pm 0 Comments

1) I'm angry with love bugs - they get more action than I do lately and they feel the need to do it on me, near me, or around me. Little basards!

2) My daughters naptime is something I secretly hope for every morning when I open my eyes.

3) My husbands breathing pisses me off.

4) Randomly I want to rip off someones face, sometimes they're loved ones, other times strangers, I don't discriminate.

5) I'm forgetful, weepy, pissed, irrational, emotional,… Continue

It is a great idea. My daughter loves books and notebooks and pens, like me. But I think she would want me to write in her book with her. Yes, this is what she would want. So, maybe 50,000 words coauthored?

How far have you gotten in your WIP so far? I don't know if I could pull off continuing a WIP for Nano or not. My inner editor needs to be fired. Its tempting to continue my first Nano project this year, but not tempting enough.

So, I have no idea what to Nano about. I really haven't thought too much about it. I've been spending all my time working on my two new blogs, trying to get them some readership, etc. My second blog is supposed to catapult me into a memoir about my gigantic family. Do you think I could pull off doing memoir for Nano? I guess 50,000 words is 50,000 words.
