Who am I
I am an artist and preschool teacher, and have lived in the North Hills of Pgh. for about 34 years. I want to write creatively about the experience I had that compelled me to get a MEd in early childhood education and led to a model for education reform.
Before that, I earned a BFA in art and started a freelance art studio. A few years later I started reading quantum physics, and was able to understand it through my 'nonacademic' art/design background. That was such an exciting revelation I wondered if math would prove to be the same and I found that beauty, aesthetics and design are also crucial to math, according to mathematicians. Unfortunately, this seems to be a secret withheld from school math and science. The key concept to the foundation of all disciplines is symmetry, another way of saying harmony, unity, balance and beauty.
Since the arts are our first language and is based on symmetry, and our body and brain are formed with symmetry, I reasoned that our innate cognitive processes of creativity and learning must be as well and I found that they are.
After a few years I entered a doctoral program in education to continue to develop this empowering education model. However, in this past month, I came to the painful conclusion that I must quit the doctoral program due to a few factors not the least of which was lack of faculty support for my work.
But then I found SheWrites, so I'm looking forward to a new path.
The only writing I've done is nonfiction, but that will change too. Life long learning (reading and writing) is the only way to go.
