What Keeps You Up at Night? What Wakes You in A Cold Sweat?

Hi Menique what does it mean to "write badly" versus "write well" is about the response you get from the readers or the response you have to your own writing? Also I'm assuming if you "can't stop you…

Hi Tansy I'm curious to know what happened when you stopped writing the stories? What made you go back to writing them? Marcy

Thanks Millicent, as writers I think it's important to discuss. I agree procrastination is a tough one as is fear of failure and I've certainly felt my share of both and experienced it too. But maybe…

HI Tansy, Thanks for responding to my post. I don't think talent and sticking with it are irrelevant. Writing what you feel passionate about is important -- not prideful. Jumping on the lit bandwago…

I think "writing badly" to me is not getting my point across and failing to evoke any emotional response in the reader. Writing badly is when my poetry starts looking and sounding like prose with line breaks. I suppose one of the biggest problems fo…

Once again the old boys network wins. This time it's because books written by women weren't selected by PW for their coveted list. At other times women aren't considered funny enough to be included on the writing staffs of certain TV shows. That is…

It's Like Riding a Bicycle

For five and half years I stepped away from my career as a professional writer, went back to school and am now licensed as a psychotherapist. So it's been wonderful to get back on the ergonomic chair and begin writing again. Luckily my first pitch, a humor piece for The Therapist, has been accepted for publication and I am excited by all the article ideas that are brewing in my head just as I am excited by the idea of a site that is specifically for women writers.

Hi Marcy, glad to be your friend!
I tried to send you a request for your article on your website but it required an outlook email. Is there any other way I can get a copy?
Thanks!

I had to speak in New York a few months ago, and though I was nervous, apparently I did just fine. My publicist, literary agent, and publisher watched me closely, and they all think I'll do great on tour. I tend to expect a great deal from myself, and I think if I can embrace this for what it is -- a wonderful adventure and a privilege -- then I'll be okay. I just need to try to relax and enjoy the ride so to speak. Ha!

Hi Marcy,

Thanks for your message.

I'm a card-carrying introvert. Though I know many fine public speakers are introverts, I'm nervous about being "out there" and vulnerable. I was an interior designer, and I loved presenting my designs to clients, in fact, I was excellent at creating the "story" of how the design would transform their homes and enhance their daily living enjoyment. I adored talking about home furnishings and the master craftsmanship of the furniture. But my book tour involves talking about myself, and that's new territory for me.

I like your idea of working out the scenario(s) in my mind. Thank you for your suggestion!

Best,
Beth

Marcy,

Of course I'm being rather selfish in my thoughts but possibly you would be interested in writing a blog post (or several) or even starting a discussion in which you post about the issues of creative blocks or frustrations, from your perspective as an MFT, then open the discussion up to members, you never know, you may find a theme that you would want to be able to focus on in your practice.

I personally could probably fill your time with my own issues regarding frustrations, mostly dealing with low self esteem, a very loud internal critic and worry about my reaction to my memoir from family and friends. But then I guess thats why you have a private practice!

Let me know what you think or if you had other ideas.

Hi Marcy,

Welcome to She Writes! How wonderful that you are here. I am a fairly new writer, currently in the midst of the first draft of a memoir. I have found much of the community and information on She Writes invaluable. I notice that you have a blog, you migth be interested in the group Bloggers Lets Make It Work.

Please jump in on any in progress discussions or feel free to start one yourself if there is an issue you would like t discuss. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Have fun looking around the site, meeting fellow writers, and joining groups.

Warm Regards,
