Hello, all. I wondered if any of you had tried using various social media outlets (i.e., social networks, blogs, videos, podcasts, etc.) to publicize your work? If so, how did that go? Did you find…Continue

Gaah. The heat and humidity are taking their toll. Most of my writing is still in my head. Too tired to get it anywhere else right now.

Fiction Writers Who Blog

Posted on November 10, 2009 at 1:14pm 2 Comments

I follow a number of writers who keep a blog. Mostly, their blogs are used for promotion and event updates, somewhat like a static author website. They invite readers to readings, tell them about their latest books coming out and more.

This is fine, but not overly interesting - at least from a marketing standpoint. I'm not a marketing expert, but I've run my own ventures long enough to know which appeals work and which ones don't. Excessive self-promotion does not really work, or so… Continue

Hi there--just wanted to drop by your page and invite you personally to our first-ever She Writes Boston meetup, celebrating She Writes' one-year anniversary! The Boston gathering will be hosted by none other than Jaclyn Friedman, author of "Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape (and one of Publishers' Weekly's Top 100 Books of 2009)," and visionary leader of Women, Action Media (WAM!). At the meetup writers will take part in the She Writes "Book Communion," where attendees arrive with one book, their own or another She Writers', new or gently used, and leave with another book as a meaningfully way to support one another's work. We will also be blowing out a candle and making a wish for our upcoming writing year -- along with She Writers gathering in 16 cities around the country. I hope you will be part of this historic (well, at least kind of cool) occasion, and RSVP now to Jaclyn here.

No, not your last name, your first name. She spelled it with a "y" like you do.

I understand the brutally cold northern snowbelt oh so well ... I'm an honorary Southerner, and certainly a Southerner in my soul, but I was born in northern Ohio.

I'm glad to meet you, Margy. Your name is one of my all-time favorites. I once had a dear friend who spelled her name as you do.

You'll enjoy She Writes. I'm quite new here, but the gals I've met thus far have all been wonderful and supportive.
