Whether you're self-publishing or published, one of the most fun things you can do to engage with your audience and create buzz is to organize live book readings and events.

When I first moved to San Francisco back in 1999, I would often take the bus down Van Ness Avenue. Across from City Hall, stood a small indie bookstore, called a Clean Well-Lighted Place for Books. I'd marvel at the banners outside promoting visiting authors and thought, "That would be fun one day to have a book…

Three Must-Do Exercises For Targeting Your Audience

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 4:00pm 0 Comments

A writer friend once told me, "You better be sure you like spending time alone if you want to be a writer. It can get pretty lonely."

Sound familiar? If that weren't true, She Writes would not be the thriving support community that is is!

Writing is extremely personal, solitary, introspective. We sit at our computers with our lattes and our brilliance, sometimes clacking away in a fit of inspired eloquence, surrounded by a vigorous symphony in our head; sometimes, staring sadly…

Hi there -- just wanted to drop by your page and invite you personally (or at least virtually) to our first-ever She Writes Seattle meetup, celebrating our first-anniversary! We are so grateful to the event's organizer, Judith van Praag, for taking a risk and stepping up to host. I hope you will support her and bring yourself and other women who write (no need for them to be members) to the Seattle gathering. At the meetup writers will take part in the She Writes "Book Communion," where attendees arrive with one book, their own or another She Writers', new or gently used, and leave with another book as a meaningfully way to support one another's work. We will also be blowing out a candle and making a wish for our upcoming writing year -- along with She Writers gathering in 16 cities around the country. I hope you will be part of this historic (well, at least kind of cool) occasion, and RSVP now to Judith here.

"I write strong female protagonists - I think as long as the character is charismatic in some way, people will respond positively."
