My piece on cosmetic female genital surgery for The Atlantic

Hi friends, I just had a piece on cosmetic female vagina surgery in The Atlantic (part of my novel--although here truth is stranger than fiction), and I'd love it if you'd read and recommend on Facebook, etc.  This is my first piece for them and I hope to make a good impression! http://bit.ly/kmVqO0…See More

Marie, the Finnishness is that obvious, is it?  :-> Yes, all my grandparents emigrated in the early 1900s. I'm the mother of two half Finnish and half Filipino children, now adults. My first husband's family emigrated from the Philippines in the 40s.

Was it the AAWW that published the Asian-American Handbook back in the 1990s? It had great editorial guidelines -- a first in its field.

I admire your work!

Hi Marie,

I just read your blog article, but unfortunately can't leave a comment there from my work computer.

I agree, you may not win "mother of the year award" but you will certainly be in the running for lifetime achievement, since what you are going through will be a commitment for life.  I completely support what you are doing for your son. I have a 16 year old step-son with aspergers and I understand the effort it takes to help these special, wonderful children.

I see your method of soothing as one born of love, nothing less. Those who condemn what you are doing cannot possibly understand what it is like to helplessly watch as someone you love goes through pain which he cannot explain.

Is marijuana any more harmful than the powerful drugs doctors prescribe? Not at all, in fact it seems to be a more natural choice.

God Bless your efforts and love for your son!

Denise

Hi Marie,

I wanted to connect with you and ask for your feedback. I recently did my first on-camera interview for the children's book on child sexual abuse prevention that I wrote, My Body Belongs to Me. Please let me know what you think when you have some time.

Thanks in advance.
