Hi Mariah,
I am very interested in your comments. I have a ms at 118,000 and am trying to edit it down to 110,000 because of the length. Have you had any bites? Have you queried? I agree that people want to get to know characters, so they…
Thanks to Candy, Tessa and Hannah for all your input on queries.
I have a new question.....do you all know people who have been published using email queries? What about hard copy queries? I suddenly realized I don't know anyone who has been…
Hi all,
I have two manuscripts completed in a young adult paranormal romance series. I am going to do a third and possibly fourth, but I want to get the first two out the door first. Does anyone have any experience with getting their YA manuscript…
Hi there,
I think that depending on the slang you could be ok, or not ok, just like you said. I have used some slang in my YA but mostly I think I use slang from the 70s & 80s that is still being used, because that is when I was growing up. Is…
Hi all,
I have been wondering about the benefits of submitting queries over email versus snail mail. I have been avoiding sending snail mail because of the environmental issues, cost and hassle, but now find that I am at that place where I…
Hi Melissa, I read a bit of a couple of your posts vicariously as I am not members of the groups (I might join though.)
I started out writing YA as well and a series to boot. My novels were suspense/mystery/coming of age but then shelved it when I…
Hi all,
I am new to SheWrites and to the group. I "accidentally" started writing fiction about two years ago and couldn't stop. I now have two full length manuscripts and plan on eventually writing the third in the series. I am torn…
Post any questions for literary agent Erin Hosier & editor Amanda Moon here. We'll collect them for our ongoing webinar series devoted to the publishing process, from submission to publication and more!
Hi there, I am new to the group and have been writing YA for almost 2 years. My problem is that I am not 100% sure what my niche is. I didn't start off intending to write a manuscript so I find myself wondering if it is appropriate for young…

Hi Melissa, I read a bit of a couple of your posts vicariously as I am not members of the groups (I might join though.)
I started out writing YA as well and a series to boot. My novels were suspense/mystery/coming of age but then shelved it when I couldn't find an agent interested in my novels. Basically after three years of working on the darn thing I was burned out. I had also lost my protag's "voice" after all the refining from "constructive" feedback.
So I shelved the series and started working on my new love, horror. I've written a couple shorts and am in the middle of a novel, much longer and more complicated than my YA novels. Also now that I've had time to clear my head, I've pulled my YA series back off the shelf and with an open mind am currently revising it. I may even combine the first two novels as the second is more paranormal than the first.
I guess what I'm trying to say is you will probably change genres a few times but why not, it's your stories and your inspiration.

LOVE has been on my mind the past few days. Maybe because it's valentines day... maybe not. I just want you guys to know what love means. Real love, not the fake marketing kind. So, I've spent the last few days trying to define love for you, not…See More
Cris, I started writing when I finally believed in myself enough and allowed my voice to emerge and trust the process. The piece I'm working on is a one-woman show about mental illness and it was bubbling under the surface for years. It was…
