Don't Want to Cry Tonight [Why Do We Want to Be Apart of the Lives of Men We Do Not Want to Be Apart Of?]

I don't want to cry tonight. So I won't listen to "Set Apart This Dream" by Flyleaf. I can't let Holly Go-Lightly's "mean reds" get the best of me and open up the doors to the lower outlets of my sorrowed, sinewy heart.I don't know how much more of this I can take. If you're gonna treat me like dirt when you're overwhelmed with insecurity you won't face or your own feelings of being lost then I can't have any part in you. I must say that I do want parts of you. However, I am well past the brink…See More

Oh So Far--I'm still a crazy fool but I..

I think you lied to me. All you movers and shakers that walked into ways you didn't fully understand and couldn't begin to express. Then you all left me.What I want is for he who is in love with me to hold me like a precious suspended snowflake in his hand. Crush it and it's insides warmly liquefy. It's not that I don't want anyone to "be real" with me. It's that I know it is possible to be treated sweetly most days. I know that because I know God and because He has changed a hard, cold, heart…See More

"Walk." A poem/piece I wrote of damaged and deteriorated innocence.

how did I fall back into this house of glass shards.feeling small, and the world, so tall.wide-eyed and big-lasheda salty tear gliding down my face.Sun shining through the glass houseof this broken space.my pretty blue dressin a tumultuous mess.bits of soil on my light blue skirt.I fluff up the underskirt tryingto self-medicate the hurt.My black ribbon's falling,my hair's losing it's wave..I make no sudden movementsto preserve what I can save. I know it's coming.Rushing through me-an invisible…See More

Thoughts on the Life Companion with God as my love.

It's a little difficult no?--For some women to live independently without seeking or looking to a man? Perhaps, for some of us it is not so; the past and present causes people to do and not do many things. For me, it is difficult to not have somebody. It is difficult because until a certain point in my life I had nobody. Then some guy came along and became the only somebody I ever had, and ever since then I have been trying to fill the spot of that somebody. Somebody.I think we're all looking…See More

Perhaps this will not be one of the most thought over or put together blogs I have ever written, but I think it's best sometimes to write the things that I don't necessarily have "together".

And this is one of them:

He's just the "bees knees". [Whatever that means.] But I feel it's proper for what I'm getting at--at least it sounds like it is. Every time I'm with him I am happy and relaxed, but a little flustered, and when he leaves I feel like my heart is going to pop.… Continue

Is it just me or is anyone else here to simply be among other women writers? And when I say women writers, I don't just mean women authors and publishers. Don't get me wrong, I love reading the blogs of authors and their stories, struggles and compelling and quirky thoughts. However, sometimes I must confess I feel a little left out f the writers circle. I need to get things out. I have a lot to share. I have a lot of things to say. I am one of those people who has fallen for the… Continue

Dear Book Lover:

You may not know me or my work, but I am the national bestselling, award winning novelist of six critically acclaimed novels who has been twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.

On Jan 9th, 2010 my debut novel, SUGAR will celebrate its 10th anniversary and in order to commemorate this milestone I am campaigning to sell 10,000 copies between now and that date.

“Bernice L. McFadden's first novel begins with the brief, poetic description of a crime so startling that the reader is helplessly drawn in, as if a bright red door stood ajar on a bleak and forbidding house. Pearl Taylor's daughter, Jude, has been found murdered and mutilated near a field at the edge of town. "The murder had white man written all over it," writes McFadden. "But no one would say it above a whisper. It was 1940. It was Bigelow, Arkansas. It was a black child. Need any more be said?" In the years that follow, Pearl catches sight of Jude in so many strangers that when Sugar Lacey comes to town and sets up her unwholesome "business" in the house next door, she doesn't know whether to believe what she sees in Sugar's face: a striking similarity to Jude, dead 15 years. In her sedate but supple prose--rising at times to a light, unforced lyricism in the description of landscape or character--the author perfectly renders the closed and protective society of a small Southern town, the superstitions, gossip, and prying.”

I’m asking that you purchase a copy of SUGAR for yourself, a friend or family member. And yes, KINDLE purchases count.

If you could help spread the word by blogging, twittering ad Face-booking my campaign, it would mean the world to me.

Peace & Light,

Bernice L. McFadden
