I mean physical pain. I fell and broke on ankle in 3 places on Dec 25, 2009. I had surgery on the next Tuesday, resulting in the installation of screws and a pin. It also resulted in a thing called…Continue

I Am Happy to Join the World of the Published

I want the world to know, my first published novel, Until Proven: A Mystery in Two Parts is now available as printed book and as ebook, through the usual sources. I would hope you'd order it through your favorite local bookstore but will surely appreciate your interest however it takes form. I sent the manuscript to my book designer on June 22, 2012 and as those of you have published independently will know, it was like entering a tunnel. My vision seems to have narrowed since then, until I was…See More

A Little Mild Euphoria

Posted on November 17, 2011 at 1:51pm 0 Comments

Just before Christmas last year, I gave my writing group the full manuscript of my novel, Until Proven. They gave it back to me with lots of work to be done, as I expected, and since February I've been rewriting, revising, reimagining. I like the reimagining part best because it is most like first draft work--my favorite.

I have a writer friend who like to rewrite. That's a slog for me. I do wish she could bottle and sell whatever it is that makes…

Comma Comma Comma Commalion

This from the NYT (writing) guy:

Where’s the Comma?

Many readers complain about what they view as a missing comma in a sentence like this: He bought apples, pears and bananas.

Style guides for book and academic publishing generally would insist on another comma after “pears,” the so-called serial comma. But news writing has traditionally omitted the serial comma — perhaps seeking a more rapid feeling in the prose, or perhaps to save time and effort in the old… Continue

The first service I used was with HP and I loved it. So HP quit offering it. Now I use Mozy and it's okay. The cost is absolutely a bargain at about $5.00… Continue

Howdy, Nora! Welcome to the Baby Boomers Group. I see that you're also a member of the Southern Writers Group, which makes me a tad jealous as my heart is about as Southern as it gets despite my having been born in and currently living in Yankee territory. My mom is from up a holler in western Virginia, just a few miles from where writer Lee Smith grew up, and almost all of my mom's 10 siblings ended up writing in some fashion. I think it goes without saying that the South has been fodder for the best of 20th Century American Literature. Hope you'll keep the tradition cookin'. I look forward to hearing more from you, welcome aboard, and all best- Julie
