Profile Information

Who I am:
Giving a voice or adding a layer of complexity to individuals who are at their lowest points, when we, the public, meet them, is my muse. My writing is very much informed by the years I lived in various parts of Africa. My poetry, for the most part, gives voice to women who historically have not been heard: African women, women in refugee camps, women who are victims of civil war, isolated, rural women who battle such health challenges as obstetric fistula and breast cancer. More increasingly, my poetry addresses the environmental devastation created by corporate entities in the name of development.

I have blog entitled Eyes on the World. Here is the link: http://omcbride-ahebee.blogspot.com/
Books I've written, anthologies I've contributed to, and any scripts or plays I've authored:
My work has appeared in many journals and anthologies including Damazine; A Literary Journal of the Muslim World, Fingernails Across The Chalkboard: Poetry And Prose on HIV/AIDS From the Black Diaspora, Under Our Skin: Literature of Breast Cancer, Sea Breeze- A Journal of Contemporary Liberian Writing , The Journal of the National Medical Association, Art in Medicine Section and the Beloit Poetry Journal. Assuming Voices, a poetry collection, was published in 2003 by Lit Pot Press. My newest collection of poetry, Where My Birthmark Dances, will be published in July 2011 by Finishing Line Press.

Hi Octavia.  Welcome to the Global Writers list, and thanks for signing up!  When you have a moment, please do post a self-intro on the group wall so we can learn more about you and your writing--which looks great.  ALso, we're working on setting up a group chat sometime in November--there's more info about it on the wall, so let me know if you'd be interested in joining that to compare notes and share resources.  Really looking forward to staying connected!

Warmly,

Tracy

PS.  Like your shout-out for Audre Lorde.  I don;t know much about her poetry, but I loved the novel Zami--it made a big impression on me when I was in my early 20s!
