SQUIRREL!

On Tuesday, I was in my garden with my gardener, showing him my new beehive, when I noticed what I thought was a dead grey squirrel curled up near the compost pile.

The squirrel must have heard.  It unrolled itself, sat up and blinked.  It wasn’t running away though. It just sat there.

Federico and I discussed the squirrel, and it sat still while we talked about it. Federico noticed that ants were crawling over its…See More

Going Both Ways

I have to come out about something.I’m not  straight. But I don’t know what to call myself.  Maybe you can help me.I don’t know the word for what I am, besides old.I’m so old  I don’t know what things mean anymore. I’m so old I think a tranny is a part of car.I’m so old I think three-way refers to an intersection.I’m so old I think that LGBTQ could be a really fancy sandwich (maybe  LettuceGoudaTomatoBaconQuiche.  (why anyone would put quiche in a sandwich is beyond me, but these are modern…See More

How Open are your Hamantaschen? was: Cookie Cleavage

Openness in Hamantaschen?Hi, all,I got the whole concept of cookie cleavage from a woman and engineer named Marjorie Peskin. We were discussing mass producing three cornered cookies for Purim--Marjorie is an observant Jew and an excellent baker, and "cleavage" seemed to be the best thing to call that space where the filling peeks out. It is a tradition to exchange plates or baskets of different food on the…See More

ME for Facebook Board!

Posted on February 4, 2012 at 11:28pm 0 Comments

Facebook is the hot topic around Palo Alto these days.

While Facebook might be a lot of things, it isn't female-heavy.  There are NO women on the board, despite the fact that Sheryl Sandberg, the COO, is a woman who is vocal in supporting women's rights.  Yet, she is not on the board of her own company. This seems to make no sense.

On the boards I have been on, members are supposed to provide at least one, and preferably all three, of the three" Ws," Work, Wealth, or…

Yes. My book is out and is available on Amazon. It's also at Kepler's and at Books, Inc. in Palo Alto where I'm doing a signing on October 5 at 7:00 PM. Please come and bring friends. Let's start the back alley writing group soon.

I Woke Up in Harlem

I witnessed the sun rise over Harlem. Harlem NYC.How different it is to wake up here than in Raleigh. No birds singing. No birds in sight. No grass, few trees. No greenery to be seen. But I have found a LOVE for it. I walked down Lenox Avenue, 125th…See More
