In my twenty-fifth year of teaching, I was called into the principal’s office. Believe me, students are not the only ones who are apprehensive to cross that threshold… I didn’t have a clue what he…Continue
Betsy Graziani Fasbinder said… Your story of the rocky road with a publisher is one I've heard before, sadly. One dear friend of mine got a great contract with a big house. I'll admit a tad of jealousy when she got it, though I was thrilled for her. It gave me no delight to watch her rocky, unsupported, and even sabotaged road. Her whole experience proved so disappointing. My indie experience has its challenges, to be sure, and you're right...working my tail off is required.. But I've been so fortunate to have a really satisfying experience as an indie author, partnering with my publisher, retaining the controls that are valuable to me, leaving some things to the experts. Either route requires a ton of work. Of that I'm sure.

Laura McHugh said… Wow, what an amazing journey! I love Bloodroot and Fannie Flagg's books, so I'm sure I will enjoy Mama's Shoes. It sounds like you've done a wonderful job without an agent, though if you decide to pursue one again, I wish you success! The right one is out there and will no doubt be impressed by what you've already accomplished.

Tyra Brumfield said… Hello Rebeccah. Thank you for the friend request. I am excited about your new book on Amazon and you'll have to keep us updated. I am at the library now, researching for a second novel. My first is in the hands of a friend, who will review it and make notes. The fact that I'm even at this place in my life makes me pose the question, "am I nuts?" Happy writing.

Writers are often asked where so do you get your ideas? What inspires you?
Answer - inspiration is everywhere. You may say that’s a cop-out answer, but I have heard countless writers say inspiration is everywhere. I admit, there was a time I felt it was a cliché until I learned to look at the world with the right attitude. When I opened my heart to the world,…
