Raising awareness of the ugly reality of child sexual assault. We can help the children today.

Posted on March 23, 2010 at 7:40pm 0 Comments

I am trying to figure out how to get the truth out to parents about the threat of child sexual assault. One in three girls and one in eight boys are sexually assaulted by someone they know. This is the same number from when I was a girl 30-40 years ago. I would like to help the children by helping parents to understand the silence and truth.

Here is what I have created so far

That’s a shame! Am I to blame?

Child sexual assault awareness and prevention!

That’s a Shame!! “Am I to blame?”

Why does the target of sexual assault carry more of the shame than the rapist? Why? Because with sexual assault the shame gets all mixed up with the blame. Why was I targeted? Did I do something, say something, or wear something that made me prey?. Afterwards, we are always looking for a reason. Why me? And if I made me the target, then don’t I have some of the blame?

Parents, I… Continue

Child Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention. Parents, expect sexual predators to be after your children. They are!

Child Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention.

Expect sexual predators to be after your children. They are.

Please expect sexual predators to be after your children. They are. The average girl is crossed CLOSELY by about 100 sexual predators before she reaches adulthood. And a boy, 10 maybe 20. So the ugly truth is, parents should expect sexual predators to be after their children. They are. Pretending abusers are not around, does not make your child safe. It makes your… Continue

Hi Renee,

I did, actually. I'm glad you asked. I just started about three of them. I need to sing them in front of the video camera so I can have someone tweak them into some kind of song sheet I guess it would be called.

I love, love the kitty idea. It is so great. You should start sending some of your stuff out to producers who can do something with it. I know you've been trained and you have knowledge with all of this. This would be great. But anyway... so far so great!!

Love,
Lori

Hi Renee,
Thanks for commenting on my blog today. I love connecting with other women/bloggers on this site. The work you are doing is really important. I worked for 7 years with teenagers in the Foster Care system, and most of them had been victims of abuse. It has happened in my own family of origin, and to me as well, when i was very young. It is disturbing how prevalent it is, and I can only imagine how many more there are who will keep it a secret all their lives.
Thanks for being brave, and for blogging about this very important issue.
The truth sets us free.

Hi, Renee. I just posted this on the Baby Boomers Group site, but wanted to send it to you directly as well:

Just watched Renee Cooper's totally unpretentious and moving video exhortation to parents re: how to recognize the signs of child abuse, and more importantly, how to be prepared for it and prevent it. There's something so honest and touchingly straightforward about this tape, including Renee's elderly dad's questions and support of her, that it hits home in a way that no slickly produced, public awareness blurb ever could. Good work, Renee. I don't know you from Adam, but I'm very proud of you.- Julie

Renee,

While I have never been a victim, I have a passion to raise people's awareness of human trafficking. Many people think this isn't prevalent in the U.S. or only is happening to specific groups.
I hope you contact grass roots organizations near you who may appreciate a spokes person or someone who can get the word out for them. Good luck.

I'd love for you to follow along and comment.
