Contemplating the End

How will we come undone?  the knot un-looping itself fingers un-locking embraces turned inside out as if we are making grand gestures  leaning back with outstretched arms and so much space between us I don't like to think of time sliding, slipping, taking apart what our words, our lips our hearts have so painstakingly put together How will we break?scatter into piecesas if we were a favorite thingthe whatnot that was treasuredand not held tightly enoughwho will let go first?who will go…See More

Contemplating the End

How will we come undone?

the knot

un-looping itself

fingers un-locking

embraces turned inside out

as if we are making

grand gestures

leaning back with outstretched arms

and so much space between us

I don't like to think of time

sliding, slipping,

taking apart

what our words, our lips

our hearts

A Kiss For Your Heart

For E.G.

I want to peel you

So you feel the

burn of losing skin

the rhythmic ache of shedding

Until I see muscle

The ligaments that

secure your bones

Your efficient organs

puzzled together

Use my teeth to crack open

Your chest

In pursuit of your heart

Broken, irregular, scarred

Your brittle ribs

What I Save

Every cork from every bottle of wine I drink

The soft purple of jacaranda blooms

My brother's pointed fist in my shoulder when we were small

My father's legs as we stand in the push and pull of the Pacific Ocean

Every word my mother has every spoken

I save dimes, rings given to me by old lovers, books and wild sage picked my daughters hands

Recipes for chocolate…

and even if you are just shy

find a way to live out loud

pissing your name in the snow

driving topless

on a road trip

nips to the wind

because life is good that way

and people will assume…
