You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. I thought I was the only one who had that problem: Can't see it in your mind, can't write it! What are some of your strategies for getting over that particular hurdle? Right now, I'm writing, No Time for Torun, a sequel to No Tears for the Teary, and my main character, Torun will soon find himself stranded in the forest and(where I'm stuck) I need an action-filled adventure highlighted by magic and mayhem to keep the suspense going---you now?Any suggestions on where you go to get orginal subplots? I thinking about the newspapers, and revisiting the Grimm fairytales...Lisa

Thanks for inviting me, Rosa.
I read about you starting writing after a life-changing experience. It was the same for me. Writing didn't save my life per se. It just gave me direction I've been searching for my entire life. It's definitely changed me.

Rosa, all I can tell you is that my Italian Mother loved the color red...and she loved flowers. I can remember the wallpaper on my bedroom had flowers in it. If I remember correctly, the flowers were mainly roses, with a few spring flowers scattered throughout on a white background. (The red was reserved for the living room sofa and chairs). ther than blankets and pillows on my bed, what one would call a comforter today was one that was hand-crochet, by my Grandmother. Once that spread was on the bed and you were under it, you couldn't move, that's how heavy it was. And warm, was hardly the word for it. Then, too, there was a vanity bureau along with either dark mahogany or light oak furniture throughout the room. Lace curtains were hung inside the drapes that matched the bedspread on the double curtain rods. Italian bedrooms are not much different than regular ones other than the few hand-made touches that a Grandmother or Mother might add. Oh, of course, there was a nice rug covering the highly polished hardwood floor. Hope this helps somewhat. :-)!

Best,
Elena

I Woke Up in Harlem

I witnessed the sun rise over Harlem. Harlem NYC.How different it is to wake up here than in Raleigh. No birds singing. No birds in sight. No grass, few trees. No greenery to be seen. But I have found a LOVE for it. I walked down Lenox Avenue, 125th…See More
