'Failing' at NaNoWriMo Was the Best Thing That Ever Happened to My Writing

Posted on November 6, 2010 at 6:16am 0 Comments

Tayari Jones wrote an eloquent post entitled, NaNoWriMo? It's Not For Everyone.

I couldn't agree agree more. NaNoWriMo is definitely not for everyone. Initially, I thought I was one of those people. I am a painstakingly slow writer. I labor over blog posts (which is why I've blogged sporadically, at best, over the past four years), articles written for myself, and freelance jobs I do… Continue

My Plan for NaNoWriMo

Posted on October 26, 2010 at 11:04am 21 Comments

It's that time of year again. The time of year when aspiring novelists get all worked up about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). This will be my fourth time participating in NaNoWriMo. Everytime I participated in the past I started out of the gate happy, shiny, and optimistic. Sometimes I kept that enthusiasm going for two weeks. But then I'd let doubt creep in and I would inevitably get off track. I skipped last year. But… Continue

My NaNoWriMo Dilemma

Posted on October 21, 2010 at 6:53am 2 Comments

As NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) quickly approaches I find myself in a dilemma as to what to write.

Option One:

Write the next novel in a series I’m writing on three “sisters.” I finished the first one a few months ago and I am currently in the process of revising. It would be easy to step back into writing about familiar characters. However, I am doing some major rewriting on the first story. I already… Continue

Roxanne thanks for adding me as a friend. I so regret all the years I ignored my need to write and take ficiton seriously. I am now always on a mission to tell young people to believe in themselves and not let anyone or anything deter them from their dreams. But - all the experiences I had have, I believe, made me a far sharper judge of people and relationships. All that is now going into my writing. And I've had several things published recently. Good luck to you !! Keep on !!
