Re: your question in the novel group re: a 'hook.'  I think your best bet is write the first draft in the logical progression that you think the story follows. Somewhere along the line -- most likely in the revision stage -- you'll see the right beginning. In my own experience with the novel I'm at work on, the more interesting beginning ended up being the middle, which allows me (as the writer) and hopefully the reader as well to be curious enough to want to know how the main character got to this point . . . and where she's going from here. Yes, my novel goes back and forth in time, and that may not suit your purposes. But by getting it all down in draft form, some hook that's a more alluring beginning may well surface.  Good luck.  I'll look forward to reading about yoru progressm.

Hello S.L Bartlett!

I want to thank you for joining my group Blooming Late!

I am sorry that SheWrites doesn't always tell me as soon as everyone joins so I apologise for not welcoming you earlier.

I saw your blog link on your profile and thought how cool it was that I just noticed that sign you have on there about what the writers wrote earlier today on my FaceBook page that someone posted and I think what a coincidence it is that now on the same day I see the blog post with the exact same picture and I love it. I recently had the same thing happen with a piece of my writing, the person said I imbued a part of the setting with a mood and it seemed like it was another character. NOPE, just a thing I put there in a room that is always there. I didn't let her know that of course and just went with it! lol

If you havent done so already please introduce yourself to the group in the Kicking It Off discussion as well as let us know your writing accomplishments and goals too! And also list your great blog in OUR GROUPS BLOGS page in our pages section to the left of the group main page.

We have a wonderful group of women that can be a support, encouragemetn and inspiration to you own writing journey and I am glad you are among them!

Poke around the group-we have many discussions that might be of interest to you and many activities to be a part of!

So glad you are here and WELCOME to the group!

S.L., Welcome to the novelist group! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. And we do a live chat every Wednesday (now!); hope you can join us for that!
