Semantics and Particulars

So Im checking out my favorite Regency blog and the author has posted an article discussing an item of a rather delicate nature...or not, it would seem, as today's ideas of privacy were apparently quite different from our modern standards. The subject matter was about a 'bourdeloue" - or a glorified chamber pot specifically designed for the female body (imagine THAT being advertized on television!).

Well that got me to thinking...mostly about how I would go about writing my…

Old Habits

Ive fallen into a procrastinating funk again…how easy it is to succumb to the feeling of fruitlessness, how anxiously I await some kind of reformation or renewal! Is it part of a creative need to immerse myself in something so deeply that I forget all else? I am jealous of those who can enter and exit that euphoria at will. I used to be able to do it, but it feels like Ive been conditioned to stand attention to the alarm bells of my family whenever they have some small demand. I can never…

Colder Cocooning

Posted on December 8, 2011 at 6:59am 0 Comments

Sipping my favorite hot tea, a fragrant blend found only in one of my favorite grocery stores in Houston, Phoenicia.

Head fuzzy. Is it the cold, or is it my brain on overtime trying to find new ways to procrastinate? Must. Think. Of. Something.

Kicking myself for not paying attention to the weather report. Staring down the prospect of buying a (yet another) makrut kaffir lime seedling in the spring, just so I have the right ingredients for the 1 or 2 times I…

Cold Cocooning

Winter has made its first real foray into Gulf Coast Texas. I know this because I drove down in the storm as it headed south from Waco to my little home town, Richmond (its actually not so little anymore, as evidenced by the urban sprawl) on Sunday, and the sulky clouds have hunched over us since then, frigid, bleak, blanketing, with a slap or two of wetness. This is the kind of cold that makes me want to curl up with a good book or some crochet while listening to music...or just the…

Howdy, fellow Texan! :)

Welcome to the Southern Writers group. First, please visit our "Kitchen Sink" discussion to get into the swing of things. Also, be sure to introduce yourself on the "Roll Call" discussion, and then just jump in and do what you like. Start a discussion, ask questions, or just tell us what you've been up to. We're a casual, friendly bunch :)

Be sure to let us all know how you found out about our little group here on She Writes!

Delighted to have you in the novelist group! You might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion if you're not too uncomfortable talking about what you're working on. We save the wall for discussion, so please refrain from linking to blog posts there, but do add them in the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread. And we do a live chat every Wednesday at 1EST; instructions on how to participate are in the "Our Water Cooler Wednesdays" box near the top of the group page. Hope you can join us for that.
