For some time, I have wanted to share more in this blog than my memoir and writing. I want to invite writers of memoir and other genre to guest post, writing about their own experiences in the world of writing and publishing, and then marketing.
Also, I want to share the healing I experience as I write, not only my memoir but the letters I've written to my mother. These…

Living in Oregon is much different from my growing up days in Tennessee. In Tennessee, there were four distinct seasons -- winter, spring, summer, and fall. Fall being one of my two favorites, or as a lot of people call it, autumn. One of my favorite memories is the yard cleanup my dad always did in his garden, flower beds, and the front yard. The front yard was blessed with an enormous, at least to me at…

Welcome to the Southern Writers group. First, please visit our "Kitchen Sink" discussion to get into the swing of things. Also, be sure to introduce yourself on the "Roll Call" discussion thread, and then just jump in and do what you like. Start a discussion, ask questions, or just tell us what you've been up to. We're a casual, friendly bunch :)
Be sure to let us all know how you found out about our little group here on She Writes!
Elena Ornig said… Hi Sherrey,
Thank you for aceptance and I wish you the best in your current project of writing memoir. Parent as an abuser is something I had never experienced BUT during my life met many, who lived through horrific abuse by their own fathers and mothers. My book " The Queen of the Castle" is a real life story ( biography) about Renata (Jackson) Castelle who manage to overcome victimisation and became sucessful business moman, eventually.
Many similar books had been written about it. However, I personally think, - not enough to make us all think, change attitude and act as true civilised cociety. I personally, believe, that every such story must be brought to light!
I wish you the best in your quest!
My warmest regards,
Elena Ornig
We moved to the Gorge because it's so rural and beautiful (we don't like crowds). As a writer, you don't need a lot of people around, but since I had my latest novel edited, I began to look into self-publishing.
The next step is inevitably the promotion, and that's the hard part, the reaching out to the world. Starla
Nice to meet you here, Sherrey.
I'm another fellow NorthWest writer. I live in the Gorge and last Tuesday I ventured out to Portland to attend my first meeting at Willamette Writers. Boy, was I out of my comfort zone, struggling with one-way streets to find a parking spot in an area I had never been before.
I visited your website. Don't you love it here?

Love this!
>I've read both The Wednesday Sisters and the Four Ms. Bradwells and enjoyed both very much; I'm looking forward to reading your third book. I've always been an avid reader, having 4-5 books going at once. :)
Thank you for reading! And me too only usually having a few going at once. I usually have a novel, a non-fiction of some sort, and an audio-book going.
Sherrey, you are too kind. I really just wanted to write something that was a combination of memories and stories I remember hearing throughout my life. It could become more... maybe a smalll book of short stories? We'll see if the creative juices continue to flow. Thanks again for your thoughts and encouragement. I truly appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I hope your project is going well. Keep me posted.
Hi Sherry,
Thank you for your comments about my blog post "Leaving." I was very young at that time but I know how hard it was for my parents to make the decision to leave family and friends and the country they loved. I know they made that decision for me and my brother. They wanted to give us the best life possible and where else but in America?
Meg Waite Clayton said… Thanks for being here and whatever we can do in the group to help your writing endeavours let us know! Let me know how things are going on the book as you go along.
