The Letter to the Kid

Hey Kid!I've been thinking about you a lot lately. How are you doing?Ok, that is silly of me to ask. I know how you are doing! It's kinda crappy, huh? I am going to tell you a few things that will hopefully help, help you get your light back. It has started to fade.I know that it is very hard to believe right now, but it gets better! It will get worse before it gets better, but  just trust me, it gets better - much, much, much better!…See More

Playing Doctor

Conley and I are very close. I shocked everyone when I announced that I wanted to stay home with her. I had a great job that I liked, and even loved some days. I traveled to fun places, I stayed in fancy hotels, and I had just made Assistant Vice President. Furthermore, I brought home 40-45% of our annual income so we did not consider staying home an option. We had an optimal day care situation as Conley's day care was on the same floor as my office. It was a great day care - as it should have…See More

Some Things Never Change

My husband and I met at the block corner, right beside the finger painting station. We were in Mrs.  Redmond's Kindergarten class at Welch Elementary. It was 1982.Tony was quiet. I was not. Some things never change. He was playing by himself. He was undoubtedly building a replica of the Empire State Building - to scale. I know now that e kept quiet as not to draw attention to the fact that he only wanted to build the replica so that he could then figure out how to burn it down or blow it up. His…See More

It Happens

Last year our family started a new tradition, a New Year's Eve party. The extended family gathers for a children's gift exchange, a Dirty Santa, a huge dinner, and just general debauchery and merriment.Until this began, Tony and I were fairly anti-New Year's Eve. It was, in our opinion, amateur night...thousands of people crammed into bars, drinking appletinis, and woo'ing and then barfing. We usually watch the ball drop in our pajamas, in our bed with a bottle of champagne. However, there is…See More

It's a Rap

My grandmother, sister and I have, to put it mildly, big personalities. We are not ones to go quietly into the night or morning or mid-afternoon. We love each other deeply, but even the most benign situations can lead to screaming matches, slamming doors and visits cut short. Therefore, an emotionally charged event can be a matter of national security; fighter planes are scrambled, the National Guard is organized, schools are cancelled. When our mother passed away, my sister and I disagreed on…See More

Profile Information

Who I am:
I am a stay-at-home mom in Charlotte, NC. There was no one more shocked than me, well, maybe my husband, when I decided to not go back to work. However, when our girl came into the world I knew, for the first time in my life, exactly what I was suppose to do with my life.

My husband and I have known each other since we were five. We were best friends in Kindergarten and first grade. Our families took turns driving us to school. I moved away at the beginning of second grade and we did not see each other again until our freshman year of college. We have been together ever since.

I live in a house that has rose bushes (a fact that I still can't wrap my brain around some days). I love coffee and red wine. I am most comfortable when completely immersed in a book. I count to 18 when I dunk an Oreo in milk. I am a hard worker. I have an incredible circle of friends. Conley's laugh can pull me out of any funk. I make a mean BBQ meatloaf. Movie theaters are one of my favorite places on earth. Snoring makes me homicidal. I am dependable.
