Too Busy to Live? Romance for the Time-strapped

You open your eyes. You’re already late. You rush to the restroom, kitchen, dining room all at the same time (OK you try). Eventually somehow you hop into something that moves and pray to the traffic to be nice to you until you find yourself at your workplace, thrown raw into the chaos of another crazy day.I’ve been there. I’d be glad to remember my spouse’s name on days like those, leave alone “spend quality time” with him.“Time-strapped” is a way of life today. For most of us, there’s no way…See More

Q&A: My Mother Feels Hurt by my Girlfriend's Family. How to Make Things Work?

Hi,I don’t know how to start this story, but let me just start by saying I love my mother. I never had a great relationship with my father and it’s her hard work, dedication, parental love – whatever you call it – that makes me stand where I stand today.I now live and work in the US. Four years back I met my girlfriend (let’s call her AK), a half North Indian-half Bengali born and brought up in the US. Her parents ran away from home and married against their parents’ wishes, though later…See More

Q&A: How to Get Over a Devastating Break-Up?

Priya and I were friends. I loved her a lot. But she wanted a relationship. Gradually I fell in love too. I allowed myself, ‘cause she came across as an honest person who’d respect my feelings. But after only 4 months she broke up with me abruptly. Devastated, I begged for explanations but received none. Needless to say I have no words to describe my feelings in the months that followed, till I came to know that she had gotten engaged to someone else. I felt may be it was the lack of a formally…See More

Being Single: The 7 Principles of Enjoying Your Singlehood

“If you can’t be happy being single, you’ll never be happy in a relationship.”I believe in sayings. I believe in clichés. ’Cause for an idea to attain cliché status, it has to be used gazillions of times, by gazillions of people, over and over through the ages, and that rarely happens for an idea that hasn’t passed the test of reality. That one at the beginning is one of the very few exceptions to this rule.Yes. Unfortunately for us, that one is a commonly held misconception. Humans are social…See More

Travel Diaries 3: Halcyon Harihareshwar – Day 1

Harihareshwar. A quaint beach village in the Maharashtrian district of Raigad, nestled in the valley of the four surrounding hills Harihareshwar, Bramhadri, Pushpadri and Harshinachal. Harihareshwar was one of our first discoveries on the less travelled trail through the mountains and beaches around Mumbai. Q&A: It Seems that My Wife and I are Losing Connect. What Should I Do?

My wife and I have been married for three years. I’d met her online when I was in college. We had been in an almost purely long distance relationship for five years before our marriage. Currently I’m in quite a drudgery of a corporate job – running 9 to 9 each day. But I’m ambitious and aim to break free of this life of slavery. Hence I’ve taken up a few projects outside of my job which my wife is also involved in.The reason I write to you is – of late a never-ending ennui seems to have…See More

Orange Nights

“To laughter that can awake the dead.”Afternoons seem unbearably long these days. As I proceeded to fill today’s with cajoling the living room bookshelf out of its antique torpor buried in a cosy quilt of dust, I chanced upon an equally antique, long-forgotten copy of The Second Sex . Mites have devoured the ‘w’ and both the ‘d’s, nibbling on a few ‘t’s and the ‘n’. The 1988 you beyond that faded scrawl on the first blank page is still…See More

Kissing Goodbye to Freedom: The Moral Police and Public Display of Affection in India

It was a moment of solemn beauty. The sea a hundred bawling shades of grey. The moon and black chasing each other across the fickle sky. The sporadic drizzles pecking the mutinous waves down below.I was speechless. Just thankful that it' s all happening. I don’t know when it was –but I guess right after I’d pecked him lightly on the cheek – when my reverie was shattered by the distinct sound of throat-clearing behind us.There he was –short, dark and carrying a colossal round paunch and an even…See More

I found the strength & the heart to come out of the relationship, complete my graduation and find the love of my life.
